GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

As directed by the Medical Practitioner, the Nursing Supervisor (RN) at Whitney Young Health promotes coordination and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to provide effective management of patient care services. Utilizing the nursing process, the Nursing Supervisor (RN) is responsible for providing professional nursing care and education while demonstrating excellent customer service. Provides direction and supervision of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direction and supervision to the Behavioral Health Nursing staff including coordination of duties and schedules.

  • Carry out the medical orders of the Medical Doctor/Program Physician/Nurse Practitioner.

  • Complete a nursing assessment (including mental health, nutrition and a pain assessment) on all patients as assigned.

  • Coordinate and assist the program physician with all medical clearances, physical examinations and follow-up visits.

  • Facilitate the follow up of the program physician's medical orders through consultation with primary counselors.

  • Make and complete all referrals to other community service providers as appropriate.

  • Refer patients to Medical Doctor/Program Physician/Nurse Practitioner or other staff when necessary and appropriate.

  • Develop, revise, implement, and monitor nursing policies, procedures, and programs, including standards and outcome measurement.

  • Participates in performance improvement activities and takes the lead on measures relating to the Medical Department of MMTP and FACTS.

  • Adheres to, monitors and reports on infection control and safety standards.

  • Maintains own professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences including current evidence-based practice, research and literature in nursing practice. Assist in the provision of staff in-services.

  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations and guidelines regarding Methadone Maintenance treatment program • Responsible for the daily maintenance of dispensing methadone and the inventory of logs.

  • Assist patients at FACTS & MMTP in developing an individualized treatment plan, working in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team and other community service providers as appropriate.

  • Provides individual and group counseling and didactic presentations on nursing and other aspects of addiction.

  • Maintains timely, accurate documentation of patient care, communication, medical orders, referrals, progress notes, discharge notes, supplies, inventories and all other patient care For HR Use Only: Revision Dates: 10/2005; 10/2011 related paperwork

  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as defined by the Joint commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations; safety standards and infection control protocols; Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Center policies and procedures.

  • Attends and participates in all assigned meetings and committees including weekly case review and conference.

  • Assists in providing a safe and respectful environment for treatment. • Maintains license, registration and certifications as required.

  • Ensures and/or remains in compliance with local, state, and federal regulation (e.g.: JCAHO, OASAS, NYSDOH, HIPAA, DEA).

  • Understands and is able to effectively communicate HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance and client confidentiality.

  • Demonstrates excellence in customer service.

  • Completes other duties as assigned by the program physician and/or behavioral health director.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing Program licensed or approved by the State of New York. Current NYS RN License and Registration in good standing. 2 years supervisory experience in a nursing environment. CPR certified.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); 5+years nursing supervisory experience, Registered Professional Nurse; Bilingual; CASAC

Salary range: $75,000 - $82,000 annually
