UX/UI Designers within Embecta’s new product development organization are focused on connected medical devices that transform the health of people living with diabetes. Our mission is to ensure that innovative technology and user experience combine into improved health outcomes for the patients we serve.

This UX/UI Design role will report to the Senior Manager of User Interface Design & Human Factors Engineering and will represent the team as a UX/UI design project lead for cross functional team projects developing mobile applications and connected devices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Front-End Innovation & Concept Design:

  • Collaborate with Human Factors Engineers to conduct contextual inquiries and design research

  • Collaborate with Human Factors & Systems Engineers to synthesize research data, generating user needs and design principles which will guide user experience design activities for connected medical devices

  • Organize/moderate or assist in running workshops & brainstorming sessions to define user experience and interface concepts

  • Design preliminary workflows, wireframes, device interactions, and visual design systems for new products or feature expansions to existing platforms

  • Create low and high-fidelity interactive prototypes to demonstrate connected medical device concepts and support evaluation by stakeholders or through structured research.

User Interface Design

  • Able to lead cross functional development of workflow or journey maps to identify intended experiences and outcomes across patients, caregivers, clinicians and other contextual actors

  • Strong technical skills for exploring & communicating intended experiences:

  • oWorkflow definition

  • oWireframing/screen layout

  • oUX feature definition

  • oApplication of visual design systems

  • oLow fidelity prototyping

  • oHigh fidelity prototyping

  • Experience leading project work streams which can include outside design partners and/or external design support

  • Lead cross-functional design reviews to gather stakeholder feedback

  • Able to embrace an iterative prototyping process and understand that success comes sooner within a learning focused team.

Design Transfer into Engineering

  • Preparing/maintaining design intent documentation, that communicates the intended user experience for mobile app user interfaces

  • Collaborate with software engineering in an agile software development environment to translate design intent into released features

  • Experience driving the transfer of UX/UI Design intent through both documentation and frequent interaction with development teams

Usability Evaluations

  • Support usability research to ensure high quality data is gathered

  • Leverage UI design principles and best practices to collaboratively identify root causes for usability issues with Human Factors Engineers

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s and/or graduate degree in a design field related to User Experience Design (Interaction Design, Graphic Design, New Media, HCI, Industrial Design or other relevant degree).

  • 7+ years of UX/Digital Product Design experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience designing medical devices

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Self-motivated/self-starter; who proactively identifies opportunities/issues early and provides multiple competing approaches to achieve the desired result

  • Strong creative process leading to thorough exploration of workflow and user experience

  • Strong technical skills with industry standard design tools such as Figma, Protopie, Framer, Principle, Adobe CC suite (helpful but not required: Arduino, HTML/CSS/JS)

  • Systems thinking: Able to synthesize complex, related problems and use design provide multiple solutions which creatively provide system level solutions

  • Creatively solve problems within a risk based development environment in order to prevent or limit potential harm to end users.

  • Demonstrates high personal standards for design which distinguish ‘good’ from ‘great’.

  • Works well in a highly collaborative cross functional team-based environment.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and visual presentation skills, as well as an articulate point of view about design. An ability to understand the value of design within a business context.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present complex ideas to both technical teams and executive leadership

  • Strong attention to detail and time management

  • Strong creative, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Working understanding of the End to End Product Development Process
