Summary

The biostatistician will support a highly interactive research team in the Michigan Kidney Translational Medicine Core (MiKTMC), Department of Nephrology at the University of Michigan, Michigan Medicine. We utilize the newest technologies and systems to analyze and review data provided to us by our multiple research consortia.

Our lab uses a variety of approaches to yield biological insight into the underlying causes of kidney diseases. These approaches include the development of new statistical analysis methods, meta-analysis across cohorts, and the linking of clinical data to high dimensional, omics datasets. Our group is extremely collaborative both through formal participation in consortia and through informal collaborations with research investigators, physician scientists and experimental groups worldwide. We are looking for an individual who has a strong background in machine learning, programming languages, and statistical methods.

Responsibilities*

The biostatistician will be able to conduct the following activities:

  • Develop and implement programs using SAS/STATA/R/Python to clean, manage, merge, and analyze large, complex, high dimensional, longitudinal datasets from multiple sources.

  • Contribute to study design decisions, perform power calculations, and estimate sample size.

  • Perform statistical analyses using a variety of statistical models and methods, including generalized linear regression, survival analyses, mixed models, logistic regression, and machine learning techniques.

  • Implement methods to ensure data quality, including development of appropriate analysis plans, independently conducting appropriate data analyses, documentation of methodology and participation in code review.

  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation of data and analytic files.

  • Summarize, interpret, and present results in written, tabular and visual formats.

  • Assist in the writing of manuscripts and grant proposals.

  • Participate as a team member in discussions on analysis and improvement of data collection, quality of data analyses, programming, and documentation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Masters degree required

  • Minimum of 2-3 years professional experience required

  • Ability to work with large, complex data sets

  • Proficient in statistics and coding software (SAS, R, SQL etc)

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts effectively such that various audiences receiving the communication can understand.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience working with team science groups to meet a common goal.

Background Screening
