At MessageGears, the Product Design team strives to build a cohesive and consistent user experience across the MessageGears platform, both visually and functionally. Product Designers collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Content Designers, and other Product Designers to help discover and define problems and create a productive, minimal, and human experience. As a UX design leader, the Product Designer leads the direction of the experience design, visual style, and design tooling of the MessageGears platform. They act as a centralized resource, helping to triage large-scale experience problems as the need arises, maintaining and implementing our Design System, building comprehensive accessibility standards into our workflows, and defining guidelines and best practices that inform how teams design and build products. Product Designers split their time between UI design and UX/research-focused activities.
Responsibilities:
Deliverables: Create deliverables for the projects you support (for example: competitor analysis, user flows, low fidelity wireframes, high fidelity mockups, prototypes, and so on) that solve real user problems through the user experience
Communication: Communicate the results of UX activities within your projects to the wider UX team, cross-functional partners within your projects, and other interested MessageGears team-members using clear language that simplifies complexity
Research: Conduct solution validation with guidance from your Product Design Manager and incorporate insights into design decisions to fulfill user and business needs
Usability: Proactively identify both small and large usability issues within your projects
Iteration: Practice design iteration within the validation stage and take part in the development process by breaking down the designs to fit the release cadence of your team(s). Review and provide UI feedback on features developed by engineers
Design system: Actively contribute to MessageGears’ Design System by adding new design components or variants in prototyping tools as needed, ensuring that reusable components fit visually and functionally together
UI copy: Collaborate closely with a Content Designer on microcopy and documentation suggestions
Design reviews: Participate in Design Crits, giving and receiving feedback in an appropriate way
UX debt: Understand UX debt and make recommendations for its resolution with the help from a Senior or Staff Product Designer or your Product Design Manager
Process: Contribute changes to the Design Process that help evolve the design culture and best practices across the organization
Recruiting: Support the Product Designer candidate interview process and collaborate with the Product Design Manager to interview and assess potential candidates
Conduct all business in accordance with MessageGears policies and procedures
All other duties as assigned
Requirements
You have a passion for and deep appreciation of UX/UI principles with a solid understanding of responsive design and best practices
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
Proficiency with modern design tools
Familiarity with user testing and usability testing methodologies
Nice to have: Working knowledge of iOS/Android design principles and software development frameworks such as React, Javascript, Angular, Python, Ruby, APIs, or other web scripting languages
2 - 5 years of experience and knowledge of UX/UI design (SAAS background)
Degree in a design-related discipline, or equivalent experience
Strong portfolio of work to showcase
Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment
Track record of delivery and experience working in teams, often within time and budget constraints
