The Mechanical Engineer I is responsible for mechanical design including details, assemblies and installations for aircraft interior components.
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Mechanical Engineer I reports to the Engineering Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist in the development of designs for new and modified interior products.
Create engineering designs that meet technical, schedule, and cost objectives.
Periodically utilize basic hand calculations to validate engineering designs.
Generate 3D Models of interior component designs.
Integrate models/designs into aircraft environment.
Research aircraft configurations/technical specifications/SOW’s to ensure proper interface between aircraft structure/systems and the interior product.
Generate 2D LOPA/GA/SK, detail and assembly drawings.
Limited interface with Purchasing/Vendors/Customers.
Generate EAMR’s, Trim and Finish dwgs and top-down BOM’s to support on time parts delivery.
Investigate/disposition drawing discrepancy reports (NCR’s), Help Desk tickets.
Provide support to manufacturing on the shop floor during first article build.
Participate and support Design Build Team meetings.
Participate in cross functional design reviews of engineering designs.
Track all engineering tasks to support deliverable Provide accurate task completion reports.
Periodic travel to support program requirements such as customer meetings, vendor support, aircraft surveys, and installations.
Promote and support 6s, Kaizen, and other Zodiac sponsored Lean activities.
Promote and support Lean Product Development initiatives within Engineering Department.
Participate and contribute to 6s and Lean activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor degree in applicable engineering discipline or minimum of 2 years equivalent aircraft engineering design experience required.
Minimum 1 year Aircraft interior design experience preferred.
Minimum 1 year CAD experience. CATIA V5 strongly preferred.

Communication – Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with limited direction.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work well in team environment.
Basic knowledge of composite manufacturing processes and tooling.
Basic understanding of FAA Airworthiness regulations and applicability to engineering designs.
Self-motivated and multi-tasker; able to level load own workload.
Ability to work in a close-knit team environment and contribute at a high level at all times.
Demonstrated humility, realism, entrepreneurial spirit and respect for co-workers and the workplace.
Maintain positive attitude towards company goals.
Normal office conditions with frequent visits to the manufacturing floor.
Standard workweek often exceeds 40 hours/week.
