Theposition reports totheRegional Maintenance Manager and performs a wide variety of semi-skilled or manual work.Thismay include repairing, maintaining, andimproving existing habitat areas and vegetation as wellasgrounds andfacilities atstateparks,fishing accesssites,wildlife management areas,andadministrativefacilities. Thisposition willreport totheFWPRegion 5Headquarters Building inBillings,MTandwilltravel withteams throughout theRegion to assist at various recreation sites as needed. This position occasionally usescomputer and office space butfrequently requiresfield work under adverse weather and environmental conditions.This position will work a4-1Ohr workday schedule, may berequired to work weekends andsome holidays and occasionallyovertime.These two positions each have 520 hours available per year and aretherefore permanent, seasonal positions. Frequent exertion, often for extended periods, including lifting, carrying, digging, and pounding canbeexpected.This position would require working knowledge ofmethods and practices of general maintenance andconstruction workasrelated to buildings, facilities, and grounds, useand care of tools, and operation ofavariety of heavy and light construction equipment but also computer skillsfor datainput onspreadsheets or other reporting programs with the ability to use tablets, computers, etc.This position frequently works independently without adirectsupervisor being present; must beableto take initiative; beable to achieve and maintain a highlevel ofquality work performance; must beable torecognize and accept authority. JobDuties: This position will perform basic repairs to building structures (including historic preservation at certain locations) includingwindows, doors,floors, walls, andfences.Operates equipment suchasmowers, powered weed trimmers, pick-ups, ATVs, chainsaws, power, and hand tools.Scrape, paint, stain ortreat building and structural surfaces including windows doors, picnictables, and shelters.Install, repair, and maintain wood, steel, wire and othertypes offencing, signs, posts, kiosks, etc.Performs landscaping activities that include mowing, tree pruning, hazardous tree/sagebrushremoval, irrigation and general care and planting oflawns, shrubs, andtreestoprovide thesitewithsafe and appropriate vegetationtoreduce weedproblems.This work includes theuse ofchain saws, pruning saws, mowers, tractors, weed trimmers and backhoe.Assists with comprehensive weed controland maintenance including grounds, campgrounds, habitat/grazingareas, picnic areas, roads, trails, and parking areas; responsibilitiesmay include specialized training and work in weed control, chemical use,hydrogeology, wetland management andpermitting.Assists withweed maintenance tasks including with theCounty spray crews/contractors while monitoring work performed.Makes site assignments and setspriorities for work.Gathers andremoves garbage, debris,litter and performs janitorial andcleaning tasks.Performs basic preventative maintenance for equipment such as checking fluids, belts, hoses, andfilters and notifies others when significant repairs arerequired.Records andfiles paperwork associated withdailymaintenance activities,requestingsuppliesandmaterials,andcompletingvehiclereports,otherpersonnel logs andtimereporting within required timeframes.Performs manual workto construct and/or repair property boundary fences, using permanent fences tominimize trespass by livestock.Performs manual work in maintaining roads, culverts, and bridges by usinga variety ofheavy and light equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, and hand tools.Performs habitat development and maintenance projects suchastree planting, grazing programs, mowing, farming, waterfowl nesting structures, and management of irrigation systems.Monitor FWPsitesand makespubliccontacts, documents incidents andeventsrelatedtopublicsafety and resource impacts.May collect fees and occasionally educate visitors onrules and regulations where applicable and report violations observed tosuperiors forfollow up.May evaluate and familiarize all staff on equipment operation and maintenance.Assists with major maintenance construction andstabilization projects onsite.The employee will determine the correct procedures tocomplete a wide variety of skilled, semi-skilled or manual work repairing, constructing, and maintaining buildings, land, water, grounds, and related facilities. May monitor maintenance needs for fire suppression anddetection systems through routine inspection and periodic tests. Responds to malfunctions.May monitor maintenance needs on visitor center security system through routine inspection andperiodic tests. Responds to malfunctions and notifies others whenextensive troubleshootingor repairs are required.Participates inand may lead safety trainings and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment onalljobduties. Alwaysconscientious ofequipment useand demonstrates good leadership to other staff by paying extraattention tovisitor useareas and cultural and environmentalresources while performing job duties. _Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: _ Knowledge: · Working knowledge of methods and practices of general maintenance and construction work as related to buildings, facilities and grounds, use and care of tools, and operation of a variety of heavy and light construction and farm equipment. · General knowledge of carpentry, woodworking, plumbing, welding, electrical and masonry work, engine repair and maintenance, and acknowledged industry standards required. Ability to perform some combination thereof preferred. · Knowledge of operations and maintenance of water and boiler systems preferred. · Frequently works independently without a direct supervisor being present; able to take initiative; ability to achieve and maintain a high level of quality work performance as interpreted by the supervisor; recognize and accept authority. * Ability to maintain weed control training at an appropriate level in coordination with Maintenance Worker 2, Maintenance Team Supervisor and Regional Maintenance Manager. · In certain situations, awareness skills must be applied to situations where other factors may require a degree of sensitivity and restraint such as in riparian areas or historic and cultural sites (i.e. historic preservation work at Bannack town site). * Must behave ethically and appropriately when serving visitors, providing accurate information about site facilities, regulations, fees, and recreational opportunities. Skills and Abilities: · Effective communication and computer skills, both verbal and written. · Working knowledge of methods and practices of general maintenance and construction work as related to buildings, facilities and grounds, use and care of tools, and operation of a variety of heavy and light construction equipment. · Ability to safely follow all traffic and state laws and ability to tow trailer with proper towing and safety protocols. · Participates in and if qualified, provides training in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). · Must possess or have the ability to obtain Basic First Aid/CPR certification. · Computer skills for data input on spreadsheets or other reporting programs with the ability to use tablets, computers, etc. for maintenance reporting purposes. _Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):_ The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalency and 1 year of job-related experience.
