Alabama Oncology Director of Pharmacy Services in Birmingham, Alabama

Scope:

The Director of Pharmacy Services will develop, oversee, and maintain high-quality, cost-effective integrated pharmacy programs. The Director of Pharmacy will exercise management responsibility to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and staff in a manner consistent with Alabama Oncology's policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for directing pharmacy operations, strategies, policies and procedures, budget process, project implementations, human resource management and committee representation.

• Responsible for ensuring compliance and other regulatory standards, implementing, and monitoring financial controls to ensure effective utilization of resources through budgeting and analysis of management reports, development of staff and services, as well as organizational performance improvement, quality management, evidence-based outcome and setting the communication tone, values, and culture of the practice.

• Collaboration with clinical leadership to develop drug use initiatives and assure appropriate use of pharmaceuticals.

• Responsible for the execution and consistent implementation of quality initiatives across all pharmacy practice settings.

• Builds and maintains relationships that are anchored in trust and shared decision making. Leads self and others to grow.

• Leads continuous improvement by using innovation, creative problem solving and proven change management principles.

• Collaborate with personnel to establish adequate inventory levels, then manage the inventory as trends and new information becomes available.

• Obtain favorable wholesaler or pharmaceutical drug manufacturer contracts for Alabama Oncology and manage and maximize those contracts quarterly.

• Provide drug information to all personnel in a timely and accurate manner.

• Demonstrates working knowledge of applicable labor laws and schedules and coordinates employee vacations, sick leave, and overtime.

• Assists with staff training and in-services as required. ; other duties as assigned.

Possesses clinical assessment skills relative to the oncology patient/family

Education and/or Experience:

  • PharmD from an accredited pharmacy school.

Seven-(7) years of pharmacist experience or equivalent, of which two-(2) years must be of pharmacy supervisory experience; proven management skills, including program planning and development, project management, finance, performance, quality and/or human resource management

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Active pharmacist licensure with the Alabama Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises pharmacy technician supervisor and technician team. Responsibilities include activities involving the delivery of pharmacy services to the patient and family receiving chemotherapy treatments; clinical quality assurance/improvement; clinical policies, protocol, and critical pathways; and OSHA /safety.
