Job Status: This is a three-quarter time, seasonal position ( 30 hours worked + 2 hours paid non-worked time, in alignment with HRDC's Reduced Workweek Policy)

General Summary of Purpose of this Position:

Provide supportive services in Early Childhood Education classrooms in the classrooms and kitchen.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Duty Statements. This position has the following duties and responsibilities. They are listed starting with the most important. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

Assist Teaching Staff with Classroom Activities:

  • Assist in the implementation of individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, cognitive, social/emotional, and motor skills following appropriate framework and curriculum guidelines.

  • Share observations with Lead Teacher

  • Assist children in practices of personal cleanliness, oral health including tooth brushing, toileting skills, self care including caring for own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books.

  • Assist with activities that alternate periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid over stimulation and to ensure recommended activity levels.

  • Ensure that activities are culturally sensitive.

  • Assist on playground to maintain safety of children.

  • Interact with children and families in a professional, supportive, and confidential manner.

  • Maintain a safe, healthy, attractive classroom learning environment, ensuring cleanliness of physical space

    Food and Nutrition:

  • Prepare and serve food in accordance with food service regulations.

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of food, including Special Diet needs, to children in accordance with established health and nutrition policies and procedures.

  • Model Family Style Dining practices to children during all meals and snack times

  • Assist in unpacking and storing incoming food, supplies, etc.

  • Maintain clean and sanitary classrooms and kitchen workspace.

  • Remove food service items from the classroom at the end of meals and snacks, washes dishes, and all food prep items following sanitation guidelines and returns them to proper storage areas

  • Prepare daily CACFP and attendance documentation for required food service policies.

  • Assist in laundering of linens and towels, sanitation of sleeping mats

    Record Keeping:

  • Provide clerical support such as filing, creating information packets, and maintaining forms.

  • Enter data, screening and assessment results and other information onto data systems, as needed

    Continuing Education & Program Development:

  • Attend applicable and mandatory trainings as directed by supervisor or program standards

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Language Skills

  • Read and comprehend basic instructions and present information to others

  • Read, write, and speak basic English sentences.

    Mathematical/ Money Handling Skills:

  • Basic counting skills

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide simple numbers

    Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to make on the spot judgment regarding safety of children.

    Computer Skills:

  • Words per Minute Computer Keyboard Required: Demonstrate Proficiency

  • 10-Key Strokes per Minute Data Entry Required: Demonstrate Proficiency

    Specialized Office Equipment:

    Operate Scanner to capture text or graphics and save or import them in application program for further use

  • Operate multi-line telephone to place, receive, or transfer calls or to retrieve voice mail messages

    HRDC, Professional or Governmental Policies and Regulations:

  • State or Federal Regulations or Laws (List by Name): Knowledge of Health Department sanitation and food safety standards; MT Child and Adult Food Care Program regulations

    Drivers Licenses Required for Performing this Position:

  • Drivers License and appropriate insurance

    Professional Licenses or Certifications Required by Law, Rule or Regulation for Performing this Position:

  • Incumbent must pass a physical exam which results in a letter stating person is free of communicable diseases by employment date.

  • TB Screening Questionnaire and/or skin test (needed every five years)

  • Current Tetanus and MMR vaccinations

  • First Aid Card, including CPR training

  • Satisfactory results from criminal background check as required by Child/Adult Abuse Act

  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with a wide range of individuals from all socio-economic groups

    Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

    Experience: The following kinds of experience usually provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position:

  • At least 6 months of experience in this field preferred

  • Basic knowledge or experience in kitchen/food prep
