Position Summary:

A Research Technician II position is available at the Department of Oral Biology (https://dental.buffalo.edu/departments/oral-biology.html) , School of Dental Medicine, UB. The laboratory conducts research in the areas of microbiology and genomics.

Position duties will include:

  • Extraction and purification of nucleic acids from cultures and clinical samples ( DNA , RNA ).

  • Performing experiments involving basic microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques as required by laboratory projects.

  • Cultivation and maintenance of various microbial strains.

  • Ordering and management of laboratory supplies.

  • Assist PI with administration of research projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires an Associate’s degree or two years formal training in subject matter directly related to the project or program and at least 3 years of experience directly related to the project or program.

  • Prior experience working in a research laboratory and ability to work independently.

  • Competence in molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA extraction and qPCR.

  • Experience working with word, excel, power point and a basic imaging software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences or related field.

  • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory protocols.
