Position Summary:
We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic individual dedicated to excellence to join our team as a Research Technician to support work on corneal diseases. Dr. Sangita Patel’s lab (https://medicine.buffalo.edu/faculty/profile.html?ubit=sppatel) , Department of Ophthalmology (https://medicine.buffalo.edu/departments/ophthalmology.html) , at the University of Buffalo, is located at the Buffalo VA Medical Center. The cornea is the primary lens of the eye, and its clarity is crucial for good vision. Dr. Patel’s lab studies the physiology of the corneal endothelium, the cell layer that maintains transparency of the cornea. There is an opportunity for growth as we will train the passionate candidate in the required skills
Key accountabilities and responsibilities – The successful candidate will support ongoing and new research activities in the lab including:
Human eye dissections
Preparing and maintaining cell cultures
Performing various bench laboratory protocols/experiments
Recording and analyzing results
Maintaining electronic databases and documents
General laboratory maintenance/upkeep activities
Assisting trainees in the laboratory

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a science / health science related field
At least 1 year of relevant laboratory work
Excellent organizational, documentation and communication skills
Desire and ability to learn new skills quickly
Able to multitask
Self-motivated and able to work independently
The education and experience requirements described in this standard may be satisfied by an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience will cell culture techniques, laboratory microscopy and tissue dissections.
