About the Role

This position reports directly to the Molding Manager and is responsible for the general and specific duties of Decostar as described below:

Your Responsibilities

• To exhibit a fair and consistent management approach that follows the principles outlined in The Magna Employee’s Charter to ensure a satisfied and productive employee workplace.

• To persuade and support the following of Company policies and business objectives in the daily management of the operations of the Company.

• To support Company directed and observe and participate in department health and safety objectives that provide for a safe and healthful workplace for all Decostar employees.

• To provide production with tools that meets the requirements within the Decostar Tooling Manual.

• To support program managers, product engineers, production departments and new product launches by managing construction of prototype molds, production molds and secondary tooling as detailed under specific job duties.

• To support the program managers in providing tooling capable of producing parts that meet appearance and performance requirements of our customers.

• Cooperate with OSHA/State OSHA inspectors.

• Always use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to set good workplace standards and ensure all employees maintain those standards.

• Know and maintain the safety rules for Decostar Industries.

• Have knowledge of general workplace health and safety in regards to the general public and visitors to Decostar.

Who we are looking for

• Attend preliminary, intermediate, and final tool design review meetings with APQP Tooling Engineers and toolmaker.

• Review tool operation sequence of all slides, lifters and ejection and review these requirements with the Molding Department Management team.

• Review MFA results with the Molding Department Process Engineering team, ensuring injection plan is OK for production.

• Provide gate sections to the Molding Department process and automation team to ensure design is feasible for both injection and gate removal.

• Ensure all mold to machine connections, water, electrical and hydraulic connections are compliant to Decostar standards for the targeted production machine.

• Attend all mold tryouts as required. Initiate a new mold checklist and inspect tool for compliance to minimum mold requirements established by the Decostar Tooling Manual. Assist APQP Tooling Engineer in writing a line up sheet for tool corrections and review it with the Program Manager, tool shop representative and the Molding Department Management team.

• Communicate project timing to the Molding Department Manager and raise any concerns with timing.

• Assist in debugging any dimensional, cosmetic, or processing concerns related to tooling.

• Assist the Molding Department Automation Manager with end of arm tooling builds to ensure any special attachments/requirements are covered.

• Provide written and oral reports following each design review and mold trial.

• Participate as a member of cross-functional teams for APQP, continuous improvement and corrective action.

• Maintain, improve, distribute and control the Decostar Tooling Manual per QS-9000 requirements where as a distribution/master list and revision levels are maintained.

• Follow engineering changes, tool repairs, etc as required.

• Assist in developing special mold preventative maintenance requirements with the Molding Department Tooling Manager and the tool vendor.

• Initiate lessons learned activity w/ molding dept. representatives and Implement counter measures and error proofing as required.

• Provide technical support to mold repair for preventive maintenance and repair activity in the Decostar tool-room as required.

• Provide program managers with technical knowledge and skills required to communicate with the tool suppliers and customers on design related feasibility issues.

• Identify and develop potential sources for secondary equipment such as punch fixtures, heatstake machines and degaters.

• Assist in development and design of the secondary equipment and processes through cross-functional teams and lead these activities as appropriate.

• Assist troubled suppliers in the launch process or helping the supplier to develop counter measures / corrective actions when production issues appear in the pre–production phases.

• Perform other duties as specified below when appropriate and as directed by the Molding Department Tooling Manager or Molding Department Manager.
