Mechanical Engineer

KBR is seeking an Aerospace/ Mechanical Engineer (ME) with a minimum of 2 years’ experience to join our team for an exciting opportunity supporting the readiness and sustainment of USAF major weapons systems. This is a full-time position supporting the A-10 System Program Office, located at Hill AFB, UT.

Role and Responsibilities

This position will support mechanical analysis projects supporting aircraft weapon system programs. Specifically, the engineer will provide analyses, planning and draft documentation to address mechanical, electrical or avionics systems Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&E) requirements. The engineer will review aircraft maintenance data and perform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Subsystem Hazard Analysis, engineering, and configuration analysis, and develop engineering technical requirements for aircraft mechanical, electrical or avionics system components. The focus of effort will be primarily in support of the A-10 but could also include F-16 and T-38 projects.

Tasks include but are not limited to engineering evaluation, analysis, and recommended disposition of technical assistance requests for aircraft mechanical, electrical or avionics systems. The engineer may use SolidWorks or other CAD programs to create 3D models of aircraft mechanical, electrical or avionics components. The engineer will develop and manage large MS Excel spreadsheets, identify failure trends, and propose potential mitigating solutions. The engineer will write technical reports detailing analyses in MS Word as well as Adobe Pro. The engineer will interface directly with USAF customers to identify customer needs and ensure efforts meet customer expectations. Some travel to various USAF A-10 bases is expected. The selected candidate will be located on Hill AFB working directly with the A-10 System Program Office.

This will be a customer interfacing position and will be located on Hill AFB. Candidates will be expected to work on base and maintain regular professional relationships with customers. This position may be tasked to support similar duties on various other USAF weapon systems.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited University with two years’ experience.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers at all levels within the organization.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems and innovate solutions.

  • Strong mechanical skills

Preferred Qualifications

More qualified candidates will possess and/or demonstrate:

  • Background/familiarity in Conditioned Base Maintenance (CBM+), Enhanced Reliability Centered Maintenance (eRCM), Critical Safety Item (CSI) management, failure modes and effects analysis, and aircraft systems engineering experience

  • Experience performing Hazard Risk Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)

  • Proficient in the use of Air Force technical manuals, supply systems, and maintenance policies and regulations.

  • Develop and manage large MS Excel Spreadsheets

  • Compile and prepare comprehensive technical reports.

  • ANSYS, SolidWorks, other CAD, MATLAB, FEA, reverse engineering, and test experience.

  • Experience in working on military aircraft, mechanical, electrical, or avionics systems.

  • Work in a team environment and possess good communication skills, both written and oral

Additional Notes

This position may require some travel.
