Geisinger Manager Charity Care (work from home Pennsylvania resident) in Danville, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

Provides centralized management for all hospital and professional uncompensated care and patient experience related matters. Oversees the processing of charity applications in order for Geisinger to maintain its’ not-for-profit status. Oversees Revenue Management involvement in the Patient Experience as it relates to refunds and billing concerns. Provides support to Finance for the Medicare Cost Report ensuring documentation supports the submission. The position requires resolution of outstanding patient balances, resolution of financial data collection errors, identifying, analyzing, reducing, and resolving various process and or system issues toward reduction of account receivables, ensuring accurate dunning and self-pay patient billing of hospital and professional services insuring annual self-pay cash flow. These responsibilities further include the management of staff.

Job Duties

  • Uncompensated Care Department receives and reviews financial assistance applications and accompanying documentation to determine if applicant meets Geisinger criteria for assistance.

  • Management of internal policies and procedures for obtaining proper approvals for eligible patients and communicate determinations to patient.

  • Deceased patient and bankruptcy accounts to determine if Geisinger can collect or if accounts should be adjusted as charity.

  • Collaborates and ensures appropriate allocation of blended agents with respect to inbound or outbound collections and campaigns.

  • Ensures timely resolution of billing system work queues, reports as well as review of statements skips to ensure patient billing is processing as expected.

  • Conducts analysis, trending, prepare month-end reports and make continual assessments of performance and progress.

  • Responsible for adherence to all federal and state regulations as it pertains to self-pay collections.

  • Responsible for management and oversight of self-pay vendors.

  • Oversight and responsibility for continually improving the overall experience to establish and meet customer expectation of consistent service excellence and ensure operational effectiveness, for Revenue Management, of our patients and families across all aspects of Geisinger.

  • Continually assesses and identify habits, issues, and barriers to service excellence throughout Geisinger and develops associated action plans to mitigate, correct, and eliminate.

  • Medicare Cost Report assembling and formatting the listings of encounters to be reviewed, and ensures the audit is adhering to the Medicare Cost Report rules and regulations.

  • Communicates and serves as a subject matter expert with the departmental activities to the management staff of Geisinger as it relates to uncompensated care processing, customer service, patient experience, and Medicare Cost Report.

  • Works and provides direction in conjunction with other areas within the Revenue Management and Geisinger to ensure coordinated activities with respect to all Revenue Management’s needs.

  • Manages an overall departmental operating and capital budget(s) within pre-determined limits and within Freedom-To-Act guidelines to ensure operational efficiencies and obtaining pre-determined performance targets.

  • Assists with the establishment of a training school for all Revenue Management employees in regard to Uncompensated Care, Patient Experience, and Medicare Cost Report, and communicates ongoing improvements relative to process improvement and employee development.

*Relevant experience may be a combination of related work experience and degree obtained (Associate’s Degree = 2 years; Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years).
