Job Summary

The Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)Locator is responsible of locating and mapping underground utilities using ground penetrating radar technology. Your expertise will contribute to the safe and efficient execution of HDD projects by preventing damage to critical infrastructure. This position supports the Line team and works with personnel within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize advanced ground penetrating radar equipment to perform subsurface surveys.

  • Identify and locate underground utilities, including water pipes, gas lines, electrical cables, and other infrastructure.

  • Analyze GPR data to interpret subsurface conditions and identify potential obstacles or hazards.

  • Collaborate with project teams to provide accurate and detailed information on underground structures.

  • Generate detailed maps and reports based on GPR findings.

  • Document the location, depth, and type of identified underground utilities.

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to integrate GPR findings into project plans.

  • Communicate effectively with utility owners and relevant authorities to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.

  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of GPR equipment.

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs as needed.

  • Adhere to strict safety protocols to minimize risks during GPR surveys.

  • Implement safety measures to protect yourself and others on the job site.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • High school diploma, or equivalent.

  • 1 year of relevant experience.

  • Valid CDL Class A driver's license with tanker endorsement.

  • OSHA 10 Certification

  • Proven experience working as a Ground Penetrating Radar Specialist.

  • Proficient in operating and interpreting data from GPR equipment.

  • Strong knowledge of underground utility systems and construction practices.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with diverse project teams

Preferred

  • 3 or more years of experience.

  • Certification in GPR operation and interpretation.

  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and industry standards.

  • Previous experience in utility locating and mapping.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
