Ford Motor Company Skilled Trade - Auto Mechanic - SE Michigan Locations in Dearborn, Michigan

This job requisition provides candidates to locations throughout Southeast Michigan. This job requisition is not location specific.

Auto Mechanics are paid a top hourly base rate of $42.075, plus applicable shift, overtime, and holiday premiums. The starting rate for this position is $41.875 with pay increases to the top rate upon completion of three consecutive months of employment.

Willingness and ability to work on an assigned schedule, change shifts periodically, work more than 8 hours per day and/or work overtime, while maintaining good attendance. Ability and willingness to learn and follow safety rules and procedures.

Ability to learn, remember, and maintain pace of steps involved in performing a job after instruction, training, and familiarization with the tasks. Ability and willingness to understand and follow instructions, both oral or in writing.

Ability and willingness to work in a team environment, including helping co-workers, maintaining and promoting a safe work environment, treating co-workers with dignity and respect regardless of personal differences, and accepting and following instructions and requests from leadership.

Candidates must have completed a bona fide apprenticeship, or have 8 years of previous experience, or have a combination of previous work experience and training equivalent to a bona fide apprenticeship program in the trade.

Maintains auto/diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments/alignments and maintaining records. Job responsibilities include the following:

  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.

  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.

  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.

  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.

  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.

  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.

  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

Successful completion of a job interview, background check, pre-employment drug screen and physical are required. Drug panel does not include THC.
