Job Description

Martin Construction Inc. is looking for a Commercial/Civil Estimator, the candidate will take responsibility for the bid process and overall completion of the project.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare, timely, bid and project manage industrial, government, state, city and private projects.

  • Basic understanding of CPM software and schedule creation.

  • Attend bid meetings and walk throughs at various locations to determine scope of work, complexities, accessibility and required content of estimates.

  • Prepare and estimate budget costs by studying plans and specifications.

  • Has exposure to various construction methods and building logistics.

  • Can implement clarifications, and qualifications from subs effectively into an estimate.

  • Ability to research unit pricing.

  • Understand GCs, overhead, and fee structure.

  • Basic understanding of project cost report.

  • Basic understanding of insurance cost implications within the estimate and knows procedures to properly input insurance costs.

  • Understands permit and tax requirements depending upon the municipality.

  • Navigates and understands building and safety codes.

  • Monitors construction process.

  • Promptly, properly communicate, and maintain positive relationships with owners, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers, etc. As needed in a manner that will build good working relationships resulting in future business.

  • Periodic travel with a 300-mile radius

    Skills/Qualifications

  • Preferred degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience in a related field of study.

  • Preferred 2 years minimum of relevant professional experience working in Commercial/Civil Estimating with a Subcontractor or General Contractor.

  • Ability to understand civil grading operations.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Preferred experience in bidding software. (i.e. Heavy Bid)

  • Strong knowledge of estimating strategies, engineering disciplines, and cost control methods.

  • Strong communications skills, written and oral, and good organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage occasional heavy workloads and quick turnaround times on estimates.

  • Excellent math skills

    Strong team player that takes responsibility in the bidding process.
