ITW Senior Quality Engineer in Des Plaines, Illinois

ITW Appliance Components serves all the major Appliance OEM in the US, Europe, Asia, and Mexico and their tier suppliers. This global division manufactures mechanical, electromechanical, and electrical components and assemblies with a variety of manufacturing processes. We have locations in the US, China, Mexico, the UK, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Italy. ITW Industrial Components is a separate Business Unit within the ITW Appliance Division focused on industrial customers and applications.

Position Summary :

The Quality Engineer will report to the Plant Manager and will be responsible for analyzing customer returns and developing written corrective action reports as well as providing quality engineering support for the facility, emphasizing defect prevention and continual improvement.

Responsibilities and Authority :

  • Support and lead QMS initiatives through ISO / AS procedures and audits.

  • Analyzes customer returns and develops written corrective and preventative action plans.

  • Provides quality engineering support for manufacturing.

  • Writes control plans and administers the statistical process control program.

  • Interacts with customers on a variety of quality issues.

  • Conducts statistical analysis of quality issues.

  • Participates in failure mode and effect analysis to identify conditions posing excessive failure risks and support proposed changes in design.

  • Reviews engineering specifications and drawings, proposing design modifications to improve quality within cost and other performance requirements.

  • Observes conduct of tests at supplier, plant, or field locations to evaluate reliability factors such as numbers and causes of unit failures.

  • Analyzes preliminary plans and develops quality engineering programs to achieve customer quality objectives.

  • Advises and confers with engineers in design review meetings to give quality and reliability findings and recommendations.

  • Determines units requiring testing and specifies minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.

  • Monitors failure data generated by customer using product to ascertain potential requirement for product improvement.

  • Reviews subcontractors' proposals for quality programs and submits evaluations for decision.

  • Acts as the customer point of contact and coordinates all quality activities for domestic and offshore manufacturing facilities.

  • Other projects and responsibilities as required.

  • Four-year college degree with a minimum of 5 years’ quality experience preferred orassociate degree with CQE certification and 5 years of quality experience is preferred.

  • Proficiency in using IM&T equipment, gauges, scopes, and other specialized equipment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Experience with JD Edwards a plus.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Experience leading AS9100 Audits.
