State of Montana Academic Counselor in Dillon, Montana

/Montana Youth Challenge Academy is a residential academic intervention program on the campus of the University of Montana Western for 16-18 year old students who are at risk of high school dropout. Designed by the National Guard Bureau and run through a cooperative agreement between the federal government and the state of Montana, the Academy offers military style structure and discipline along with academic, professional, and life-coping skills students need to become productive citizens. The Academy's staff are professionals from a variety of backgrounds who share a dedication to our mission and who enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and rewarding environment./ We are recruiting for a Counselor to serve on the MYCA team. Responsibilities include and are not limited to: * Analyzing student progress and provide appropriate guidance and support. * Ensuring assessment guidelines and test security are always followed. * Working professionally with administrators, staff, parents, and community. * Integrating appropriate technology into the delivery of guidance lessons and support students’ academic and career goals. * Maintaining accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy to include 504’s, credit requirements, suicide assessments, etc. * Capable of providing brief solution-focused counseling, with the ability to recognize the scope of practice and refer students for a more expert level of therapy as needed. * Knowledge of scheduling, academic interventions and Infinite Campus preferred. * Scheduling and career counseling to keep students on track towards graduation and goals. Additional duties for a state of MT licensed counselor:Montana endorsed school counselor to conduct counseling of student groups and individual students regarding educational and career plans, counsel individual students who are having problems in school, educate students and parents regarding the necessary coursework required for graduation, provide counseling and guidance to students and parents in the use of test results for education/career planning, and consult with teachers, other educational staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This work requires knowledge of the concepts and theories of youth counseling, human behavior, crisis intervention, education, and “at risk” behavior. The position requires knowledge of the youth justice system, tribal laws and regulations, employment and vocational resources in the state, community partnership opportunities, adult and youth training, vocational preparation, public relations methods and techniques, research methods and techniques, technical writing, and program administration. Previous experience working with at risk youth is preferred. Must be skilled in establishing and maintaining positive professional working relationships, maintain confidentiality, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Conditions of Employment: Must pass a background check, driving record check and pre-employment drug test. This position is subject to random drug or drug & alcohol testing. Minimum Education & Experience Qualifications: * State of Montana licensed school counselor according to 37-23-202, MCA: * Completion and passed the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited school counselor program which includes an internship in a school setting of 600 hours. OR * Completion of a master’s degree in school counseling from a regionally accredited college or university which includes an internship in a school setting of 600 hours.
