POSITION SUMMARY:

The PCB/CAD Designer is a hybrid role that will augment the mechanical engineering staff in the sustaining engineering and new product development of power supplies. The role will design and draft layout for printed circuit boards (PCBs) and work with the project team in understanding circuit requirements and limitations by designing and maintaining products for the power supply industry as well as designing new mechanical packages for existing products. This role is responsible for analyzing and resolving design related issues in a timely manner. This role also uses CAD in preparing PCB assembly and schematics. It is important to develop design documentation and requirement specifications for assigned projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Place components and route traces ensuring that all functional and physical specifications meet the design requirements for PCB, electrical, mechanical and thermal design

  • Create PCB designs in accordance with manufacturability and assembly requirements

  • Engage manufacturing team to allow for design for manufacturability improvements (DFM)

  • Create drawings, Gerber files, and other documentation for PCB fabrication and internal verification

  • Work with Electrical, Mechanical and Firmware Engineers and react appropriately to engineering changes in PCB design and documentation

  • Participate in process improvement activities for the CAD design team

  • ECAD library creation for footprints and symbols Create or revise accurate, detailed SolidWorks CAD models, drawings, BOM’s, and other engineering documentation as required per the company processes

  • Update engineering drawings and create Engineering BOM Change Lists for Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)

  • Update mechanical packaging drawings of chassis, base plates, heatsinks, and components from concepts, customer specifications and new product line development

  • Update and create final assembly drawings of open frame PCBAs and PCBAs in mounting enclosures, checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used and overall fit

  • Strong priority setting skills, desire to meet project, tasks, and/or assignment deadlines

  • Can work with minimal supervision, with ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment

  • Proficient in working with SAP and Microsoft Suites (Outlook, Project, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word)

  • Preferred SolidWorks experience and AutoCAD 2D CAD equivalent experience a plus for editing legacy drawings

  • Experience creating detailed engineering/product drawings for manufactured mechanical components and PCBA assemblies, including Bill of Materials (BOM) generation

  • Organizational and follow-up skills

  • Thoroughness / attention to detail

  • Computer skills (Windows, MS Office, previous PLM & ERP database experience preferred)

  • Willingness to perform other activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job

EXPERIENCE:

  • Competent skills and experience with ECAD programs/software applications and related equipment

  • 2+ years of experience in PCB design, mechanical drafting or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

  • Experience and knowledge of PCB design technologies, techniques, electrical schematics, PCB fabrication and assembly drawings

  • Fundamental knowledge of industry standards such as IPC for design and ASME/ANSI for documentation

  • Preferred 1 – 3 years SolidWorks experience

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a product development environment

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $70,000 to $100,000 per year.
