The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will perform technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes that have significant impact on the company. This role will take the lead on some initiatives.

What you will be doing:

Design mechanical systems to meet project specifications

  • Lead the design and optimization of mechanical components, assemblies, fractional horsepower drivetrains, and enclosures. Components include shafts, couplings, flanges, housings, gears, drive belts, clutches, bearings, etc.

  • Performs analysis of mechanical systems, including Finite Element analysis for structural, fatigue, thermal, vibration, air flow, and acoustics.

  • Vet and select reliable outside vendors for component selection, manufacturing, and assembly

Create documentation of high standards

  • Authors protocols, drawing standards, and procedures covering documentation and data for releasing of components and assemblies through their various life cycle phases

  • Establishes structure for accurate bills of material (BoMs) and authors engineering change orders (ECOs) on products while ensuring accuracy of links between CAD and the ERP system

  • Creates and reviews technical drawing packets of parts to be released and reviews them with receiving customers

Collaborate and work cross-functionally with team member

  • Actively engaged with the developmental team on important matters, including schedule, budget and performance and how to accomplish the selected goals

  • Coordinates with system engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information

  • Analyze and provide input on customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications

  • Other Responsibilities as assigned by the department or manager

Must have for this role:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with a minimum 5+ or related experience; or 3+ years of experience with an advance degree or PhD without experience or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years Mechanical Design experience

  • Experience in development, design, testing and operation of multidisciplinary machines

  • Skillful in 3D CAD modeling (Solidworks), FE analysis, Microsoft Office products, and an ERP system

  • Skillful in design for manufacturability

  • Skillful in injection molded part design, sheet metal fabrication, machining, die cast, and weldments

  • Versed in controls base electro-mechanical systems

  • Self-motivated and highly organized

  • Willing and able to teach and train junior engineers

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge

  • Willing desire to continue to learn

Nice to have:

  • Experience in personally using additive and subtractive manufacturing process

  • Cost effective and simple mechanisms design experience

  • Heavily involved in sheet metal designs performing complex functions

  • Injection molding part design experience

  • Experience with machines used in a machine shop – Hands on creation

  • Background in high volume, low cost consumer products preferred

Travel required: 5% or less
