Air Force Materiel Command Recreation Assistant (SWIM INSTRUCTOR) in Edwards AFB, California

Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Aquatics Department. Provides swimming lessons and instruction to groups of adults and/or children, or to individual adults or children. Responsibilities Provides swimming lessons and instruction to groups of adults and/or children, or to individual adults or children. Instructs patrons on rules and procedures for safe swimming. Works in swimming pool environment where lifeguards are present to perform lifesaving activity. May assist lifeguards in inspecting pools for safe conditions, and perform other duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming pool to include: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, checking chemical levels. rearranging locker rooms, presenting new activities to management to increase pool utilization, cleaning/organizing pool decks. and opening/closing pools for the season. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification for the type of activity and skill levels they are instructing, e.g .. swimming. aquatic exercise. Must have nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills. water safety instructor (WSI) as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of instructional and developmental teaching methods, swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Must satisfactorily completion Installation Records Checks (IRCs), State Criminal History Repository Checks (SCHRCs), and National Agency Check w/lnquiries (NACI). Must meet deadlines and complete assignments with an acceptable level of accuracy. Must possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, completing routine, regularly assigned duties. Maintains professional customer service. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing. Regularly keeps supervisor informed of progress and advises supervisor of any problems or unusual situations that may impact operations. Ensures compliance with fire and safety standards/regulations/policies. Performs assigned duties and tasks in a reasonable amount of time with little or no supervision. All formal and informal training applicable to this position, as deemed necessary by the supervisor. Must maintain current certification as required. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
