The Role: The Maintenance Mechanic Relief Operator performs preventative maintenance work in the central heating and cooling plant and on the campus in the areas of general maintenance, repair, HVAC, plumbing and other related trade work. This position will perform relief operation and after-hours dispatch duties in the central heating and cooling plant as needed on a 24/7 basis. The duties, specific tasks or combinations of tasks are performed professionally and efficiently, incorporating both personal integrity and mutual respect. Job Duties Perform general maintenance, repair, and support plant operation. Work may include but not limited to: - Effectively communicate and maintain positive working relations with faculty, staff, students, and the campus community as well as FMD management team. Perform work in a manner that provides excellent service with nominal to no inconvenience or disruption for the client. Perform quality work that meets or exceeds the expectation and satisfaction of the client. - Perform work using Best Practices while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures to provide a safe workplace. - Maintain main heating and cooling plant including large dual fuel boilers and related equipment. - Maintain and repair remote gas fired boilers and domestic water heaters. - Maintain steam and chill water and domestic water distribution systems. - Maintain steam and condensate systems including steam traps, valves and expansion joints. - Operate high pressure steam boilers including three 60,000 lb/hr water tube and one 30,000 lb/hr fire tube, on gas or oil as required. - Perform scheduled maintenance and make repairs including, but not limited to, adjusting packing glands on valves and pumps
