Position: Director of Provider Services

Reports to: Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Staff - Outpatient Services

The position performs as a strategic and operational leader for Arnot Health and our initiatives related to medical staffing, provider recruitment, and provider credentialing. The position plans and coordinates with medical providers all aspects of credentialing, recruitment, and onboarding, and manages and supports assigned committees and task teams. The Director of Provider Services ensures communication and understanding of these activities among the staff and leadership, and ensures an accurate, consistent message in Arnot Health’s provider initiatives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, include the following but are not limited to:

Medical Staff

  • Coordinates credentialing function on candidates for appointments/reappointments.

  • Coordinates meetings of the Medical Staff.

  • Serves as HPN Coordinator for the Health Commerce System.

  • Acts as resource for Medical Staff.

  • Develops and coordinates educational programs for Medical Staff. Coordinates record-keeping for completion of hospital and NYS mandated training. Coordinates and tracks medical staff mandated training for organizationally mandated educational updates and required electronic medical records.

  • Maintains departmental and committee meetings and correspondence.

  • Keeps track of physician contact information and updates the Communication director when a provider leaves or enters the Arnot system.

    Recruitment

  • Sources potential candidates for permanent recruitment to Outpatient Services using a variety of sourcing tools

  • Evaluates prospective Internet recruiting sites. Manages updating of recruiting information on preferred websites.

  • In cooperation with Arnot Health webmaster: develops, implements and maintains current provider information and marketing information on the Arnot Health website.

  • In collaboration with Arnot Health and/or Outpatient Services department managers; identifies, screens and schedules candidates for locum tenens placement on an as-needed basis. Maintains cost/revenue summary for facilitating management of locum tenens resources.

  • Contacts prospective candidates for permanent and locum tenens placement. Provides specific details about the local medical community including the practice setting, clinical resources, employment contracts, compensation, and benefits.

  • Develops and participates in site visit itineraries for prospective candidates.

  • Supervises and facilitates relocation and integration of new providers to the area. In cooperation with the appropriate Medical Directors, Section Chiefs and the Director of Operations & Finance, facilitates smooth and timely integration of new providers into Outpatient Services.

    Credentialing

  • Prior to issuance of a contract offer, ensures compliance with pre-employment credentialing.

  • Assures aspects of provider Onboarding Process are carried out to effectively facilitate and accomplish timely third party payer credentialing and establishing new provider’s start dates.

    Malpractice Insurance Liaison

  • Manages credentialling staff to our commercial malpractice insurance carrier to ensure that comprehensive coverage is continually in effect for professional services that each provider renders for his/her patients.

  • Advocates on behalf of Outpatient Services providers with regard to malpractice insurance coverage issues including, when appropriate, scheduling of appeals hearings.

    Provider Orientation

  • Supervises development and implementation of comprehensive orientation programs for new providers.

  • Routinely meets with Outpatient Services providers for the purposes of identifying their professional and personal concerns and needs, nurturing personal and professional relationships and establishing strong, trusting, organizational, professional and personal relationships.

    Provider Privileging

  • Serves as Administrative Director of the Outpatient Services Credentials Committee. Establishes the agenda for monthly Committee meetings.

    Community Outreach

  • Facilitates mutually productive relationships between Outpatient Services , Arnot Health and independent medical providers in the region through the development and implementation of an effective forum for interactive dialogue.

    Supervision

  • Supervises all daily work activities, including hiring, distribution of work assignments, evaluations and disciplinary actions, for Senior Recruiter, Professional Services Recruiter, Recruiting and Marketing Assistant and Credentialing Assistant.

    EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in business or health care preferred.

  • Certification as a Certified Professional in Medical Services Management or Certified Provider Credentialing is preferred.

  • Specialist or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality or the willingness to achieve one of these certifications is required within 2 years.

    EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 6 years’ relevant management experience is required, preferably in a healthcare setting in provider recruitment or Medical Staff Services.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and excellent interpersonal communication skills are required. Flexibility with a strong ability to multi-task is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

  • Knowledge of MDStaff Credentialing Database is preferred.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Typical office job: lifting 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally lifting 25 lbs.

    EXPOSURE CATEGORY:

    Category III. Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

    Category I task are not a condition of employment.
