Dean Transportation Service Technician (Auto Mechanic) Grand Rapids in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Immediate full-time position available, starting pay $18-$30 per hour based on experience and certs.  Full benefits package provided.

*SUMMARY OF POSITION  *

Perform as a fleet mechanic which involves all areas of vehicle maintenance, diagnosis, and repair on passenger vans owned by the company.

*SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES *                                                                                 

Diagnoses vehicle problems and performs repairs as needed in accordance with manufacturers' instructions and State and Federal regulations. Performs road tests on vehicles. Inspects and repairs electrical system from front to rear. Performs engine tune-ups. Troubleshoots and repairs engines; rebuilds if necessary. Inspects, services, and repairs transmissions, cooling lines, and filters. Inspects, services, and repairs brake systems, air and hydraulic. Inspects, services, and repairs drive train from transmission to rear axle. Inspect, services, and repairs front suspension. Inspects, services, and repairs windows and frames.

Inspects, services, and repairs wiper motors, switches, arms and blades. Checks body damage and handles some body repairs. Inspects, services, and repairs cooling systems, radiator, hoses, pump, and block. Repairs carburetors and fuel problems. Inspects, services, and repairs exhaust systems.

Answers service calls and responds to breakdowns; conducts on-site repairs when possible.

Installs accessories such as radios, camera boxes, etc.

Prepares vehicle maintenance reports and submits to Regional Fleet Manager. Reviews technical reports, vehicle maintenance manuals, electrical diagrams, and meter readings to evaluate, diagnose, and repair.

Consults with vendors concerning ordering or use of parts.

Consults with van drivers and other mechanics regarding maintenance problems and/or needs and advises or assists as necessary.

Performs safety inspections; assists with Michigan State Police inspections.

Cleans shop floor, drain pan, buckets, etc. Properly disposes of unusable replacement parts such as batteries, brake drums, as well as used motor oil, transmission fluid, and antifreeze.

May change oil and repair or replace tires.

Performs other duties as assigned.

*SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS  *                                                              

Vehicle maintenance experience required; automotive and light truck diagnosis and repair preferred.

Technical School degree in automotive preferred, with 3 to 5 years of vehicle maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform this job.

Must possess or be able to successfully obtain (once hired) current Mechanic Licenses through either ASE or the State of Michigan in the following areas: Engine Repair, Suspension & Steering, Drive Train, Brake Systems and Electrical.

May also be required to be certified in Computer Electronic Engine and Transmission Diagnostics.
