Senior Mechanic - B


As a Senior Mechanic B you will perform assembly, disassembly, and modification of advanced mining and construction equipment at the Caterpillar Tucson Proving Ground.Apply mechanical skills to build new models of Caterpillar equipment and modify existing models with product improvements and technological enhancements.

Job Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Apply mechanical skills to perform assembly and disassembly of advanced mining and construction equipment.Modify existing models with product improvements and technological enhancements

  • Make safety and health a priority during all work (and home) activities.Engage in Caterpillar's culture of safety and participate in efforts and activities to continuously improve the safety of operations.

  • Follow written work instructions, repair manuals, engineering drawings, engineering specifications, and solid models for assembly and disassembly of complex machine assemblies.

  • Work with other mechanics, engineers, technologists, instrumentation technicians, operators, and logisticians in a collaborative team environment to complete complex mechanical tasks safely, with the highest quality, while meeting project schedules

  • Apply knowledge of machines and machine systems to perform troubleshooting of malfunctioning components, systems, and machines

  • While working on new products, identify potential issues, potential system and component problems, potential maintainability problems, and potential failure modes.Communicate observations and findings to engineers and (diplomatically) make suggestions for improvement

  • Provide input to supervisor and team for continuous improvement (CI) and capital projects to improve safety, quality, velocity, and cost.Aid supervisor in the implementation of other employee’s CI ideas


Basic Requirements

  • Five years of experience as a mechanicin maintenance, and repair of mining and/or construction equipment.Familiarity with multiple machine systemssuch as structures, engine, powertrain, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical andelectronics, and undercarriage

  • Must be able to work continuously onone’s feet for 8 to 10 hours per day in a variety of environmental conditions(i.e. inside/outside, hot/cold/inclement weather, dusty environment)

  • Strong communication skills and ademonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with coworkers andcustomers

  • Ableto use a personal computer to access work management systems and documents andbasic proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

  • Willingness and ability to pass pre-employment,random, and post-incident drug and alcohol screening.

Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • Formal education, certificate, ordegree in automotive, heavy machinery, or diesel technology.

  • Ability to use visview software toopen and view CAD models of Caterpillar assemblies. Experience using onlineCaterpillar engineering drawings (in EPIX or HVC), 1E Specifications (in REDI),and service information on Cat SIS Web.

  • Experience on multiple mining andconstruction machine types including haul trucks, shovels, excavators, loaders,tractors, and motor graders
