Position Overview

The Lead Painter is a mechanic who is a working member of his/her crew, who is charged with the responsibility of leading, directing, assigning and approving the work to the other members of his/her crew. Lead painters are selected for their technical skills with due consideration for their ability to lead people and accept responsibility.

  • To ensure that all aircraft parts/components removed from an aircraft in work, that are to be rerouted to the applicable shops, are documented by a valid service and operation number and that the work scope is properly identified.

  • To ensure that proper FAA approved technical data is used and available to the crew.

  • Assigning work to the crew directly under him/her, assigning the right individual to the right job for maximum utilization of their skills.

  • Responsible for his/her own work and the work of his/her assigned crew.

  • Responsible for the proper work execution of part tags attached to repairable, serviceable or condemned parts. He/she will also be responsible to assure that all serviceable tags are installed on components and properly annotated.

  • Assures that his/her crew performs top quality work and monitors the work performed by the individuals and crew.

  • Insures his/her crew members are qualified and that they use proper procedures, manual references, and tools in accomplishing their assigned task. Perform on the job training, as required and determine any additional training needs.

  • Takes attendance at the beginning of his/her shift of assigned crew and report attendance in accordance with Payroll procedures.

  • Insures accurate and complete turnover and to schedule work for his/her assigned crew members.

  • Assist in preparing performance evaluations of his/her assign crew members.

  • Provide estimates for all maintenance on non-pre-planned documents (i.e., non-routines, etc.) within his/her area of responsibility in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for completion of paperwork and reports in connection with the assigned normal duties.

  • Obtaining customer approval on original, additional and/or revised estimates to accomplish maintenance on the customer's aircraft and components.

  • Interface effectively with members of management, other departments and co-workers.

  • Insure all safety programs and procedures are carried out during assigned shift.

  • Accomplish all functions in a cost-effective manner.

  • Responsible for material ordered, proper amounts, usage and to ensure the proper documents for chemical usage and waste are documented in every incident.

  • Maintain a clean, safe and professional work environment at all times.

  • Perform other work as instructed by HAECO management.

What you need: (Requirements)

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Two+ (2+) years experience performing as an accomplished aircraft painter with progression of responsibilities, have previous Foreman, Temporary Foreman experience with aircraft painting, or previously demonstrated ability within HAECO for a period of one year.

  • Cannot be colorblind.

  • Visual acuity must be a minimum of 20/40 corrected.

  • Have had HAZMAT training within HAECO or equivalent pertaining to strippers, paints and solvents for usage and handling of waste.

  • Read, write and understand the English language.

  • Must be able to work extended periods of time with support of breathing apparatus. Possible extreme physical exertion with certain job responsibilities. Potential exposure of hazardous chemicals.

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

  • Subject to continual loud noises.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods of time, climbs steps, ladders and/or service stands.
