Job Description:

Our Greensboro, North Carolina office is seeking a Water Resources Engineer who specializes in hydrology and hydraulics, and has practical experience applying their skills in the design and construction of hydraulic structures. Our Greensboro office focuses on the evaluation and design of dams and other hydraulic structures, as well as advancing our practice of risk informed decision making within our dam engineering group. We are looking for experienced, motivated candidates with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong multi-disciplinary team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide hydrologic and hydraulics engineering expertise, technical oversight, and overall management of dam and water resource engineering projects.

  • Perform detailed and complex hydrologic, hydraulic, and water resources engineering analyses using state of the industry tools and software.

  • Perform inspections of dams and hydraulics structures.

  • Develop and review design calculations, hydraulic and hydrologic computer models, engineering reports, and design drawings.

  • Collaborate with peers from other technical disciplines to achieve project goals, including geotechnical, civil, structural, and mechanical engineers.

  • Develop engineering proposals and qualification statements.

  • Perform project management activities including planning and delegating work, managing project budgets, invoicing, communicating resource needs, and reporting backlog.

  • Work as a team member within the Greensboro office and across other Schnabel offices.

  • Manage client relationships and business development opportunities

  • Manage, teach, and mentor junior staff, commensurate with experience level.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or other related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in hydraulics and hydrology.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer with the ability to obtain reciprocity in other states or ability to become a Licensed Professional Engineer within 6 months of the date of employment.

  • Experience performing open channel and closed conduit hydraulic design of infrastructure for water measurement, control, and conveyance.

  • Experience with and active use of engineering software commonly used to evaluate watersheds, dams, and hydraulic structures: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (both 1D and 2D), SITES, ArcPro, and AutoCAD/Civil 3D. Experience with 3D CFD or numerical modeling is preferred.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing design drawings.

  • Understanding of the current state of the practice in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses related to dam engineering.

  • Prior project management experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • A strong work ethic and the desire to perform professionally at a high level.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Attention to detail and well-organized.
