DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic III to join its Facilities Maintenance & Development/Plumbing/Pools team.

This individual will perform maintenance mechanic level installation, maintain and repairs at all City swimming pools, decorative fountains and water parks facilities; submersible and circulation pumps, electric pump motors, circulating piping systems and pool components malfunctions. Must follow State and City codes. Perform work order inquiries, comprehend oral instructions, and comprehend mechanical sketches, building plans or blueprints. Maintain swimming pool, decorative fountain pumps, motors, filters, and liquid and gas chlorination systems. Assist in obtaining and submittal of estimates for repair by contract. Maintain accurate records of personnel, supplies, time, and cost tracking. Provides preventive maintenance to equipment, buildings, facilities, and systems. May lead and train lower-level personnel. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

This position is designated among essential personnel under the City of Houston's Emergency Management Policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy object ( up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices routines or techniques in a specific area or trade, which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
