Position Description

Primary Purpose

Provide project engineering support for liquids terminals operated by Kinder Morgan. This support will include engineering and design for projects associated with the storage of liquids in atmospheric and pressurized vessels and transportation of liquids via pipeline, rail, truck, and marine vessels. The selected mechanical engineer must have significant experience performing hydraulic analyses for hazardous liquids and gases, specifying and selecting mechanical equipment, materials and components.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Possess and operates under “Safety First” principles.

  • Engineering and design of in terminal and regulated liquids transportation systems, including piping, pumps, valves, control valves, vessels, flow meters, and other associated instrumentation and equipment.

  • Build and develop system models for performing hydraulic/surge (transient) system analysis of existing and proposed piping systems.

  • Provide engineering and design support for liquids product blending and mixing.

  • Review, assessment and support of liquids terminals pipeline operating and maintenance challenges

  • Develop materials and mechanical equipment specification, data sheets, packages.

  • Technically review proposals and provide recommendations for selection of pumps, valves, control valves, vessels, flow meters, and other associated instrumentation and equipment

  • Concurrently manage multiple tasks with various deadlines and responsibilities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Position Requirements

Competencies, Skills and Abilities:

  • Analytical problems solver and ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex problems.

  • Must be self-motivated, and able to perform the required and expected duties with minimal direct supervision.

  • Ability to coordinate and/or manage concurrent or simulations project or assignments of various objectives, of various sizes, in various locations and with various completion dates.

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineered drawings, such as PFDs, P&IDs, piping, isometrics, structural, electrical, etc.

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering design and construction standards, specifications and operation and maintenance procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or similar Engineering discipline.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • 8-10 years of experience as an engineer in liquid pipelines or liquids terminals design, construction, operation or maintenance engineering.

  • Working knowledge of industry and regulatory codes and standards, such as 49CFR195, API, ASME, NFPA.

  • Must be proficient in MS Office products. (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • The candidate must have experience with creating and analyzing steady state and transient liquid hydraulic models of complex piping systems.

  • A preferred candidate has experience with DNV Synerigi Pipeline Simulator software.

  • A preferred candidate has experience with analyzing pipe stresses and Caesar II.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the Company and its insurers.

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).

Working Conditions

  • Able to work a flexible schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days from home

  • Able and willing to do frequent field work, visit and supervise construction work, gather data or guide visitors.
