JOB OVERVIEW

MartinFed is seeking a full-time Payroll Specialist at our Huntsville, AL corporate office. This position will be responsible for accurate, timely and consistent bi-weekly payroll processing for the company. The Payroll Specialist will also oversee travel for the entire company via the Concur portal. This role requires the ability to simultaneously manage tasks to meet established standards and deadlines while ensuring accuracy across all payroll and travel functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Payroll/Timekeeping:

  • Handlethe bi-weekly payroll cycle for 150+ employees in a multi-state setting and ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
  • Work closely with benefits and HRIS to ensure accurate data flow to payroll.
  • Handlechanges to employee 401k contributions and/or loan payments.
  • Handleall employee changes for any garnishments, child support orders, or tax levies.
  • Assist in quarterly and year-end preparation, w2 processing, including moving expenses and taxable benefit/wage processing.
  • Generate, distribute, and analyze various payroll related reports earnings, taxes and deductions as requested.
  • Conducts audits to validate internal payroll controls, ensure the accuracy of data, and identify areas of process improvement.
  • Review and process company-wide timecards on a weekly basis.
  • Conduct weekly floor checks to ensure employees are entering time in accordance with company policies.
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy ofemployee leave accrual balances.
  • Manage current state registrations and addition of new states, as needed for taxes.
  • Assist with audit requests, including 401k, workers compensation, financial review, DCAA requests.

Travel:

  • Review expenses and travel reports for compliance with company policies and JTR / FAR requirements. Release to AP module for payment.
  • Train employees on company policies and best practices for booking travel. Assist employees on travel and expense report process.
  • Maintain employee guides for travel and expense reimbursement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business or related field. Additional years of experience can be substituted for education.
  • 3+ years of direct experience with multi-state payroll required.
  • 2+ years of proven experience with Government Travel to include knowledge of JTR (Joint Travel Regulations) guidelines.
  • Strong proficiency of ADP Workforce Now.
  • Proven troubleshooter with excellent decision quality
  • An analytical mindset with high attention to detail is critical.
  • Able to prioritize and organize workload, multi-task, adapt quickly to change and deliver under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Extensive knowledge of tax principles and wage and hour laws.
  • Must be customer service-oriented
  • Ability to work with various levels of management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative minds t to "think outside the box" to improve process, culture, and meet objectives.

DESIRED QUALIFCATIONS

  • JAMIS Prime experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Service Contract Act (SCA) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • General office environment
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Some walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying of light items such as papers and books.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment.
