Amergis Remote Tutor in Indianapolis, Indiana

The Tutor is responsible for assisting service recipients in meeting their educational goals and aspirations through positive educational support and direct tutoring. Also responsible for enhancing study skills and facilitate the understanding of educational concepts. The Tutor may also work one- on-one with children with Autistic Disorder (AD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDDNOS), Asperger’s Disorder (AS) and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD). If applicable per the program the Tutor implements the Behavior Support Plan (BSP) designed and maintained by a Behavioral Supervisor and gathers quantifiable behavioral data necessary for the Behavioral Supervisor to evaluate the effectiveness of the BP in achieving identified goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • If applicable per the program will provide ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) based therapy to individuals diagnosed with autism

  • Works on increasing socially significant skills (language, social, self-help) and decreasing maladaptive behaviors (if applicable)

  • Demonstrates support of educational outcomes for service recipients supported

  • In accordance with individual educational goals, provide training and/or assistance to ensure growth toward goals

  • Listens to and responds to the needs of service recipients, parents/guardians, area program staff, and agency management

  • Assists service recipients

  • To develop and/or maintain a structured study plan

  • To improve and maintain self-confidence in the academic environment

  • With ensuring a calm and quiet study environment

  • In the development of adaptive and effective coping skills with academic related anxiety

  • With access to community resources that assist recipients with educational/academic goals

  • To realize their educational and vocational goals and help attain academic outcomes

  • Utilize State Specific Core Curriculum Content Standards in every tutoring session and document appropriately in tutor progress note (if applicable per state working in)

  • Completes all mandated supervision and training and maintain as required

  • Communicates in a professional manner with service recipients, employers, parents/guardians, area program staff, and agency staff

  • Required day to day contact with service recipients, parents/guardians, area program staff, and agency management, both face-to-face and/or by telephone

  • Advocates for service recipients in all situations

  • Abide by all agency policies and procedures

  • Performs job duties in accordance with agency mission and values

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Ability to work as a member of a team, to complete tasks as instructed, be receptive to new ideas, and be creative in solving problems.

  • Ability to also work autonomously, setting goals for work tasks and using strategies to effectively meet goals.

The Tutor position is program specific. The below minimum requirements are to be met based on the type of position and the program being hired on for.

Minimum Requirements for Basic Tutor (per program specifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be 21 years of age or older and have no history of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children or vulnerable adults

  • At least one year of documented experience with tutoring or teaching children, preferably with behavioral, emotional, or learning issues

  • Reliable transportation (including valid driver’s license, insurance, vehicle registration, and acceptable driving record within company insurance guidelines) is highly preferred so service recipients can be transported if needed

  • Must complete criminal background and other pre-hire requirements

  • State specific Teaching Certificate (if applicable per state working in)

    Minimum Requirements for ABA Tutor (per program specifications

  • PPD or chest x-ray, if applicable

  • Participation and completion of Amergis' competency program
