Heidelberg Materials seeks to future proof its cement operations with increased digitization and operational capability. The overarching goal is to centralize operations, and to achieve operational excellence. For this purpose, it is establishing the Heidelberg Materials Remote Optimization Center (HROC) in its headquarters in Irving, Texas.

As an HROC Regional Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of a central operational services group for an operating region with direct management responsibilities for Remote Optimization Specialists and functional support staff in the region. This position will be the primary contact for plant/region operational management and is responsible for the quality of operational services provided and success will be measured in alignment with the achievement of regional operating objectives.

What You’ll Get to Do

  • Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize product quality. Analyze data, conduct experiments, and recommend adjustments to process parameters, equipment, and operating procedures.

  • Management of the Remote Optimization Specialists (ROS): Directly manage the ROS for multiple cement plant sites within the region. Provide leadership, guidance, and technical support to ensure smooth operation, adherence to HROC and plant procedures, and optimal plant performance. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and facilitate/monitor training and development for the control room operators.

  • Coordination and Collaboration: Facilitate overall coordination and collaboration between the control room operators and functional engineers and managers assigned to specific plant sites within the region. Foster effective communication, knowledge sharing, and best practice implementation among the teams and between teams and regional/plant staff.

  • Operational Support: Collaborate and consult with CCC and region/plant personnel to ensure that process engineers, quality managers, reliability engineers, and systems engineers are effectively supporting their respective plant sites. Provide guidance, technical expertise, and resources as needed to ensure efficient and reliable plant operations.

  • Budget and Resource Management: Monitor and control expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and optimize resource utilization across the region. Collaborate with the plants and regions in the development of operating budgets and major outage scopes/budgets for each of the plants.

  • Performance Monitoring: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for plant operations and provide regular updates to senior management. Analyze performance data, identify areas for improvement, and develop action plans to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and product quality across the region. Assure adherence to HM operational and performance standards and methods.

  • Systems and Technology: Oversee the activities of systems engineers responsible for plant automation, data acquisition, and control systems. Ensure the proper functioning and optimization of plant control systems, analyze system performance data, and collaborate with the team to implement improvements and upgrades:

  • Operational and Functional Service Optimization: Actively participate in the continuous improvement across all service activities. Actively participate in the development and adoption of new technologies and operational programs initiated by HM.

  • Process Optimization: Collaborate with control room operators, process engineers and plant teams to identify opportunities for process optimization and improvement. Lead initiatives to enhance process efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure consistent product quality across the plant sites within the region.

  • Quality Control: Work closely with quality managers to ensure consistent adherence to quality control measures and standards across the plant sites. Support the implementation of quality improvement initiatives and address any quality-related issues that arise.

  • Reliability and Maintenance: Collaborate with reliability engineers and maintenance teams to develop and implement maintenance strategies, outage plans, and reliability improvement programs. Monitor equipment performance, analyze maintenance data, and identify opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and optimize maintenance practices.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.

  • Strong experience in a leadership role overseeing operations, process optimization, quality management, reliability, and/or systems engineering in the cement or heavy industrial sector.

  • Strong knowledge of cement manufacturing processes, automation systems, and industry best practices.

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team working across multiple plant sites.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.

  • Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proven history of driving continuous improvement initiatives and achieving operational excellence.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally
