PART TIME

A registered professional nurse sharing in the responsibilities of organizing and administering standards where the practice of nursing takes place. In cooperation with the unit manager, he/she is accountable for the counseling and development of nursing personnel as well as the supervision of patient care given on his/her shift. He/she participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Nursing Administration goals budget, policies and procedures, along with other members of the nursing management team. He/she serves as a resource to nursing personnel.

Summary

Serves as clinical supervisor, coordinator and director of daily on-site clinical activities occurring interdepartmentally (with all Inpatient Nursing staff) and interdepartmentally (with ancillary & support staff). Serves as the liaison person between the Nursing Staff and all customer groups associated with this Department &/or services provided by Nursing.

The Nursing Practice of this position is congruent with evidence-based practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Direct supervision of assigned personnel.

Completes performance appraisals of designated personnel.

Management for the adjustment of staffing to meet patient needs.

Clinical resources.

Confirms with clinical managers on a daily bases to assure continuity of customer service plans.

Initiates initial levels of corrective action with clinical manager/director's input.

Assures compliance with departmental and institutional polices and goals.

Monitor assignments and adjusts accordingly to assure appropriate productivity levels.

Serves as a positive role model to the staff and maintains those same expectations from the staff.

Participates in unit specific orientation for all new personnel.

Promotes professional growth of designated personnel through scheduling & assuring attendance of appropriate educational programs.

Indirectly supervises volunteers, students, ancillaries etc.

Serves as a knowledgeable resources intra/interdepartmentally and to other customers.

Competently functions in a staff capacity as needed.

Participates actively in establishing standards of care affecting dept. guidelines, policies, and protocols.

Maintains and enforces awareness of medical-legal aspects of Nursing/patient care i.e. (including but not limited to) consents medical record/pt. confidentiality pt. follow-ups BSI reportable incidents etc.

Initiates social service plan of care.

Confers with all customers' concerning customer service issues and resolves the issues.

Assures an environment which is clean and free of health hazards.

Actively involved and provides input in department planning re: budgets JCAHO compliance Maternity Licensure, developing and updating policies & goals, meeting agenda items, PI activities.

Serves as a liaison to support and maintain all customer relationships.

Leadership Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees in the Inpatient Nursing Services Department and indirectly supervises all on-site activities with ancillary support services. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable law. Responsibilities include assisting with training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Certifications as specified by each Nursing division. Current license in the State of Ohio.

Education and/or Experience

Education: Bachelors

Years of Experience: 1-3 years

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training

Certifications as specified by each Nursing division. Current license in the State of Ohio.

Communication/Interpersonal Skills

The work requires incumbents to comfort patients and/or families and/or interpret and explain hospital policy and procedures in somewhat difficult or sensitive situation.

Analytical Skills

The work requires the ability to analyze and solve problems requiring the use of clinical or technical principles and/or advanced administrative experience-bases knowledge. Examples at this level include clarifying patient care plans, resolving less complex employee relations issues, and responding to complex inquires requiring knowledge of multiple departmental functions.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Work is generally performed according to existing procedures and instructions. Other Skills and Abilities

Computer Skills:

Works within a windows environment and is familiar with the functionality of the windows tools.

Has proficiency working with the applications found within Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Internet/Intranet/HUB: Has the ability to access the organization’s intranet and is familiar with the different content and page layouts. Can access information from the different sites within the web page. Can access the internet and search for relevant material as it relates to the current job.

Must be able to access the appropriate applications. Must be able to use the functionality of the applications for the successful completion of the employee’s essential job requirements. Maintains the security of the system and access codes per hospital policy.
