Overview of the Role:
Execute & record results of 2-4 Quality Inspection rounds per shift across all operating work centers
Manages, analyzes Quality Inspection rounds results across all shifts to ID trends, corrective actions & cost saving projects
Completes, document and analyzes results of shift testing to include but not limited to tensile, roundness and force testing, wire diameter checks, hanging weight tests, ant bait, Terro vacuum testing, mole worm etc. to identify/resolve vendor issues and support Quality Inspector efforts
Document non-conforming material, calculate/perform rational AQL assessments to disposition nonconforming material while maximizing throughput and minimizing overall manufacturing costs
Design, train, support & execute in process quality studies of new and existing raw materials, work in process or finish as needed while identifying/implementing corrective actions within the dept and in conjunction with Manufacturing Engineers and Operations
Develop/support/document raw material and work in process standards/specifications to improve the manufacturing operator experience and autonomy.
Actively use 5 Why process to understand root causes of production issues with raw material, work in process or finish goods and develop/implement sustainable corrective actions
Conducting in-depth quality investigations to ID/eliminate waste and reduce variation.
Designs/executes/analyzes capability studies for new product introductions or raw materials and the subsequent publishing of written reports with clear analysis, conclusions, recommendations, and next steps.
Doing inspections and tests including laboratory tests and training laboratory, quality and engineering personnel to do this work.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Regular attendance and punctuality required to support needs of the business and cross shift meetings
Maintain a flexible work schedule between shifts to periodically cover for peer vacations, PTO etc. while supporting the business needs to have a Quality Inspector on site
Support/Lead evaluation of new and existing processes and raw materials.
Work with QC inspector as needed to review/analyze supplier COA’s and disposition of raw materials.
Document all non-conforming material and shift reports prior to completing your shift
Proactively share/convey succinctly and comprehensively your shift results verbally and in written form (shift reports, NCR’s etc.) the following but not limited to findings, audits, procedural breakdowns, improvements implemented to your peers and others via cross shift mtgs, published shift reports and data records.
Actively seek/record/act on quality & safety problems, inefficient manufacturing methods/processes, unsafe conditions/behaviors, measurement devices out of Calibration, out of spec conditions etc. to reduce defects, reduce defect frequency and improve process efficiency via the Safety & Quality STOP program
Actively use the ERP system to access PN standard cost, create/submit/track maintenance notifications & work orders, mine Sap and Quality data for trends to reduce variation and defect generation
Understand and actively use Sophos to access PN & Assembly drawings to ID metrics causing nonconforming material.
Routinely interacts with Purchasing and Suppliers on quality issues to present analysis to ID defects and implement corrective action
ID/Share opportunities & content to reduce defects, improve specifications with manufacturing engineering personnel Dept Manager and QC Inspector to develop raw material and in-process specs.
Calibrate measuring devices prior to use as needed and ensure measuring devices are calibrated as needed per the schedule
Train operators, inspectors and other personnel performing in process inspections and tests.
Maintain logs and assure material traceability, as required
Present quality issues and data analysis in a concise manner to engineering personnel to arrive at best practice solutions.
Participate in Supplier quality audits at supplier’s sites and by doing desktop audits.
Actively work with manufacturing engineering, quality dept personnel to achieve/publish transparent and easy to understand raw material and in-process specs for operations
Actively design/develop inspection and test procedures for the quality team, manufacturing team, others.
Manages several of the following Quality Dept support processes for data acquisition, std work methods, data analysis and periodic published reporting to include but not limited to
Tensile and roundness testing
Force testing/data analysis of rat traps
Raw material testing/trails on equipment
Calibration system- documentation, tool tracking, Cert filing etc.
Quality Management System SharePoint site
Mole worm testing
Ant Bait testing
Develop Quality training content, deliver training to operators, inspectors and other personnel performing in process inspections and testing and data acquisition
Maintain logs and assure material traceability to lots
Conduct studies, analyze data and write concise reports
Present quality issues and data analysis in a concise manner to engineering personnel to arrive at best practice solutions.
Serves as a back up to Lab in support of manufacturing operations – Titration diagnostics for any bait, mole worm make up, data recording/tracking, etc.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Follow all EHS regulations, policies, programs, and TBT to prevent incidents
Actively support the Safety and Quality STOP programs by submitting monthly STOP card requirements
Complete all assigned HR, EHS and Quality training courses on time
Willingness to learn
Performs other duties as assigned
Successful Candidate Profile:
Minimum Associate Degree in an engineering or similar technical field or 8 years equivalent experience in quality, quality inspection or quality assurance
5 years of practical inspection and quality experience in consumer-based manufacturing preferred
Good communication skills both verbal and written
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to interpret drawings and material & contract specifications
Working knowledge and implementation of quality management systems to include but not limited to Calibration, nonconforming material processes, auditing methods, ISO9000, ISO17025, AS9100 etc.
Ability to interpret customer quality and technical specifications.
Able to organize and coordinate multiple tasks and activities across shifts and departments
Demonstrated capability to present projects/data clearly and succinctly at all levels of the organization
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, Teams)
Working knowledge of statistics (control charts, testing etc.) preferred
