About the Role

The Global Capex Project Manager is responsible for shaping and driving a capex roadmap of ca 100M CHF across the globe (especially in Americas), build business cases and lead selected capex initiatives from A to Z (idea to execution). You collect strategic ideas, prioritize and put in motion the capex program for the scope assigned to you for the upcoming 3-5 years, working hand-in-hand with the stakeholders in the global Customer Supply and Development team, the financial teams and the cluster & site stakeholders to ensure buy-in and make it happen. You influence VPs, Presidents and C-level, using your E2E perspective of BCs value chains, your knowledge of financial, operational & supply chain processes. You build a capex roadmap which boosts ROIC, lifts our operational standards across the scope assigned to you and ensure the plan supports Barry Callebaut’s global business objectives on smart growth, productivity, people safety, food safety, sustainability and business continuity. You drive the innovation of the global capex funneling and prioritization process, from idea generation down to execution. You lead multi-disciplinary project teams consisting of senior stakeholders across the whole world. You drive the innovation of BC’s capex management standards to make it a world leader on ‘capex management’. This is a role that requires strong project management & skills, financial & operations acumen, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders at VP, President and C-level.

Key responsibilities:

Long term capex planning

  • Responsible for creating the most optimal capex strategy & roadmap which balances smart growth, productivity, people safety, food safety, sustainability and business continuity vs financial capex budget.

  • Shape and continuously refine the integrated capex roadmap for the scope assigned to you for the next 3-5 years.

  • Build this roadmap in joint collaboration with the functions listed under “Network of interactions / links” below.

  • Ensure all your relevant stakeholders have visibility on the roadmap for their specific span of control.

Business case creation and evaluation:

  • Drive the creation and validation of large capex business cases up from A->Z (M&A opportunities, consolidation initiatives, growth initiatives, global strategic initiatives on eg SHE & QA). The size of these cases can be anywhere from 0,5 to 500MCHF.

  • Evaluate business cases and IPs submitted at local, cluster and global level

Project team leadership:

  • Shape & lead multi-disciplinary teams consisting of senior stakeholders across the whole world in the definition, planning and execution of selected large capex projects

  • Lead the execution of selected key initiatives from A->Z (bringing the E2E perspective across the value chain: commercial, supply chain, procurement, finance, master data, manufacturing, R&D, engineering, process development,...)

Capex governance:

  • Monitor local, cluster and global capex budgets assigned to your scope, including actuals and forecasts (IP-based and cash-out based)

  • Report global planning & execution status, escalate budget/timing variances and implement mitigating actions.

  • Lead steering committees for selected key capex initiatives

  • Manage capex initiative interdependencies and resolve potential conflicts.

  • Implement a robust change control process on capex management for your scope, including documentation and workflow approvals. Document clear accountability at the project level for decision-making and approvals in a defined Stage Gates process.

Capex Standards & Innovation:

  • Drive the innovation of global standards for idea collection, idea shortlisting & prioritization, budget allocation, funds transfers, IP creation, IP approvals and IP execution.

  • Set the KPIs to measure the effectiveness per capex management process step, to continuously improve each step

  • Measure these KPIs across your scope, ensuring relevant issue identifications & mitigation actions

  • Drive the organizational change management related to changes on the capex funneling process and standards, by ensuring buy-in for stakeholders in your scope

  • Design and implement an effective process for sharing ‘capex management knowledge’ across the business

About You

  • You bring a Master’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial) or Financial Management

  • An additional degree in Business Administration is an advantage.

  • Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt is an advantage.

  • Fluent English is required.

  • One or more additional languages are a clear advantage.

  • You have more than 10 years’ experience in a senior project director or senior line management role.

  • More than 5 years driving multi-site initiatives in a matrix organization is required.

  • You have more than 2 years’ experience with leading capex initiatives in a regional role.

  • P&L ownership experience is an advantage.

  • Consultancy experience is an advantage.

  • Operational and process knowledge of chocolate manufacturing and supply chain processes. This is essential to effectively pinpoint and evaluate improvement ideas.

  • You have the ability to easily switch between a 10,000-m global view and the smallest shop floor detail.

  • You need to have good presentation skills, able to communicate your thoughts in a crisp, structured way, and feel confident in front of a large, senior audience.

  • You are open to flexible working hours occasionally.
