Milwaukee College Prep 2024-2025 Mental Health Therapist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Position: Mental Health Therapist 

Reports to: School Principal and Dr. Elliot Broch 

Job Summary:

The Mental Health Therapist works with youth and their families to provide highly skilled psychological casework services, counseling, and treatment for identified students in the school setting.  The School Mental Health Therapist will also provide consultation services to the school staff to support the overall mental health goals of the school within MCP’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). They will also help facilitate the development of student character and wellbeing through MCP’s framework to ensure a positive and focused environment that creates the conditions for positive learning.  This position requires a concrete vision of excellence, the ability to build outstanding relationships with stakeholders, and a talent for inspiring all stakeholders to high social and academic expectations.

  • Maintains regular contact with the parent/guardian of each client (if appropriate) 

  • Implements therapeutic strategies to effect behavioral changes through individual, group, and/or family therapy.

  • Completion of risk assessments and follow up on referred scholars.

  • Completes treatment plans, treatment plan updates, consent for mental health services authorizations and all documentation requirements. 

  • Collaborates and consults with teaching staff in the classroom to assist in providing effective classroom interventions for a trauma sensitive school. 

  • Refers students to appropriate agencies and cooperates with other agencies in collaboration of treatment. 

  • Conducts SEL and emotional regulation groups as necessary. 

  • Consults with school staff regarding school-wide behavior support. 

  • Identify and provide intervention strategies for children and their families, including case management and crisis intervention. 

  • Coordinate Parent Education Opportunities. 

  • Coordinate, collaborate and consults with Reg Ed and SPED staff to develop intervention plans, in class supports, BIP’s etc. as needed. 

  • Conflict Resolution.

  • Attends related meetings and training as appropriate. 

  • Provide Tier II supports for students with identified behavioral and emotional challenges aligned to the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by School’s Principal and/or Campus Based School Psychologist   

    Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in psychology, social work, counseling or other human services related degree  

  • One year of experience working effectively with culturally diverse groups 

  • One year of experience  working with children, adolescents and families  

  • One year of experience treating children who have experienced trauma

  • Clinical licensure of either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LSCW or APSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPC or LPC-IT) or have already obtained clinical licensure.

    Compliance:

    Must complete and obtain Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification annually sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.  All MCP network employees are mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect.

    Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:

  • Must have a belief in and be in alignment with Milwaukee College Prep’s core beliefs and educational philosophy.

  • Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Must have experience with how to navigate the computer, internet, Excel, Word and the ability to understand how to build reports from a website.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Must be detail oriented.

  • Work independently.  Self driven. 

    Physical Demands/Working Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 10% walking, and 20% standing.  This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy indoor environment.
