Successful candidates will complement the current expertise in our department and will grow strategic synergistic collaborations within our department and the university. Candidate research expertise should align with the following (ME) disciplinary areas and applications: Manufacturing, Materials and Mechanical Design - with applications to biomedical devices, additive manufacturing, smart materials, or robotics and automation; Thermodynamics and Heat and Mass Transfer - with applicationsto heat management in devices, new processes involving bio heat transfer, and fabrication and evaluation of materials for energy storage and conversion; or Plasma and Aerosol Science and Engineering - with applications to semiconductor manufacturing, clean room and particle technology, and filtration. We primarily seek candidates at the assistant professor level; however, we will consider senior level appointments for exceptionally qualified candidates. Qualifications Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in mechanical engineering (or a closely related discipline) by the date of appointment. The successful candidate is expected to have the potential to conduct a vigorous and innovative research program. This candidate is expected to have the ability to effectively teach graduate and undergraduate level courses to a diverse group of engineering students. The candidate's research and teaching activities should enhance the department's teaching and research missions. About the Department The Department of Mechanical Engineering is home to 43 faculty members, 256 graduate students, and 469 undergraduate students. We provide a high quality student experience founded on a research integrated education, with learning opportunities that capitalize on the unique aspects of our department and state. Our research encompasses all areas of mechanical engineering and addresses societal challenges in the areas of energy, environment and sustainability, human health, next-generation manufacturing, and robotics and mobility. The department is also home to two NSF ERCs: the Center for Advanced Technologies for the Preservation of Biological Systems and the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power. The department is part of the College of Science and Engineering, a highly interdisciplinary college comprised of 12 departments covering engineering, physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science.
