Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz welcomes applications for the position of Instructional Support Technician in the Department of Art. The role of Instructional Support Technician requires specialized knowledge distinct to the Printmaking program. The position oversees all aspects of maintenance and upkeep of equipment and tools in an expansive printmaking studio; adherence to, and communication of, proper studio health and safety standards; coordination of studio access; purchasing and budget management; procuring, coordinating, and handling of materials; and hiring, training, and supervision of student employees. The Instructional Support Technician consults with Printmaking Faculty on a weekly basis about studio procedures and curricular needs and acts as the primary contact for the studio's physical plant with the Office of Facilities Operations and the Office of Environmental Health and Safety. In addition to these tasks, the Instructional Support Technician assists faculty in the delivery of safety demonstrations and Is available to students as they work on their projects for routine technical advice.
The ideal candidate will have significant professional and/or educational experience in a similar role including proven experience with multiple printmaking techniques such as relief, monotype, silkscreen, intaglio, paper-making, lithography, and book arts. The candidate must be a creative problem-solver, and a generous collaborator who demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills. In addition, the candidate possesses exceptional budget and printmaking studio management skills and ability to model professional artistic practices. Facility with Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to maintain a small digital lab with iMacs, printers and a scanner is a must. We prefer someone with familiarity in sustainable art practices and or someone who connects students to career opportunities.
Qualifications: Required:• BA, BS, or BFA degree• Proven experience in multiple printmaking techniques• Creative problem-solver• A generous collaborator who demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills• Exceptional budget and printmaking studio management skills• Facility with current software and hardware
Preferred:• Significant professional and/or educational experience in a similar role• Familiarity with sustainable art practices• Ability to connect students with career opportunities
