Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Train new MECH/TECH Instructors and serve as a mentor in delivering technical training classes, including guidance on scheduling, session preparation, and communication with stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with the MECH/TECH team to analyze, continuously update, and improve technical training syllabi and materials.

  • Evaluate training programs and analyze performance data to determine the level of performance improvement needed/required by instructors and students to achieve successful results.

  • Partner with CFR-243 Compliance Specialist to maintain compliance with FRA requirements.

  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to measure the effectiveness of technical training programs.

  • Provide technical support and assistance in the use of learning management systems (Cornerstone), eLearning software, and Smartboards.

  • Design and develop instructional materials, including e-learning modules, training manuals, videos, and interactive presentations.

  • Apply instructional design theories, models, and strategies to create effective learning experiences.

  • Performs other duties as assigned/directed.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Associate Degree in Instructional Design and Development, Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Vocational Education, or related area from a U.S. Department of Education accredited college or university.

  • Plus, three (3) years of experience in rail training, rail management, operations training, and technical program facilitation - respective to job offering.

  • Plus, two (2) years of experience actively engaged in the creation, development, and enhancement of technical technical materials and curricula.

  • A maximum of two (2) years of directly related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.

    Preferred:

  • Experience in the design, development, presentation, and evaluation of technical skills and/or management development training programs desired.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design & Development.

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and develop instructional materials, including curriculum, lesson plans, and multimedia elements.

  • Demonstrated skill in instructional design methodologies to create innovative learning solutions.

  • Ability to create assessments and evaluation strategies to measure the effectiveness of learning materials.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Tools (i.e. Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint), Articulate 360, DaVinci, Gimp, and Visio.

  • Exceptional presentation, written, and verbal skills required.

    Preferred:

  • Ability to consistently recognize opportunities for improvement and development, ability to execute new ideas to improve training programs desired.

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems.

  • Experience with Smartboard Technology.

Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations:

  • Certificate in Instructional Design & Development

  • Appropriate certification, (e.g. NORAC, MW-4, EIC, QMP), required based on assignment.

Working Environment:

  • In person/Office/Remote/Field

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work on computer both remotely and office environment.

  • Ability to stand during in-person training sessions.

  • Ability to walk track distance (approx. 1 mile) and climb onto railroad equipment as needed during fieldwork exercises to evaluate trainers and students.

Other Conditions:

  • Flexibility to work as needed, including evenings and weekends.
