Springbrook Occupational Therapist Assistant - Day Habilitation in Norwich, New York

Salary ranges from $25.00- $26.00/hour

New hires are eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus!

Position Summary:

Great opportunity for a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to work as part of a highly skilled interdisciplinary therapeutic team instructing, motivating, and assisting adults with intellectual and physical disabilities in learning and improving independence in activities of daily living. The COTA will be under direct supervision of an Occupational Therapist. Administer complex active and passive therapeutic exercise, ADL training, and use of various cognitive techniques.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide occupational therapy services to individuals receiving services in a variety of settings.

  • Assist OT in conducting screening, assessment and/or evaluation of adults, in keeping with their individual needs.

  • Assist OT in developing individual and group therapy goals in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, based on assessment results.

  • Assist OT in planning and reviewing appropriate activities for individuals and/or groups.

  • Provide occupational therapy treatments as indicated in each person’s life plan.

  • Demonstrate appropriate interactions with individuals to enhance individual performance.

  • Provide in-service training and consultation to staff, parents, residential staff and other professional personnel regarding adaptive equipment, positioning and other intervention techniques.

  • Utilize and manage appropriate assistive and adaptive devices to support individual’s needs.

  • Maintain individual’s records as necessary to comply with all applicable regulations.

  • Complete appropriate data collection and documentation for attendance purposes, following departmental protocols.

  • Effectively and efficiently communicate with supervising therapist regarding each individual’s participation in therapy.

  • Demonstrate an understanding and compliance with applicable regulatory procedures.

  • Follow confidentiality procedures as outlined in Springbrook policies and therapeutic practice regulations.

  • Attend appropriate departmental meetings as assigned.

  • Inventory, store, monitor and maintain supplies and equipment. Maintain a clean and organized therapeutic program space and office space.

  • Maintain current knowledge of treatment practice per discipline-specific practice requirements.

  • Maintain and provide Springbrook with proof of current certification/licensure.

  • Annually complete additional professional development activities, as assigned and approved by supervisor.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications, Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Graduate of an AOTA approved education program for OTA (Associate degree or higher)

  • Must have a New York State COTA license

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to effectively collaborate with others.

  • Participate in a monthly wheelchair clinic

  • Communicate openly and professionally, and employ appropriate conflict resolution

  • Strategies, during interactions with colleagues and students.

  • Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word; have the aptitude to learn other computer software as necessary.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50 lbs.

  • Meet the requirements to drive Springbrook vehicles as required.

  • Be able to perform all physical interventions after receiving specific training.
