CLASS TITLE: STAFF ASSISTANT

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is administrative work assisting an official in the operation of a program or work unit. The employee assigned to a position in this class researches and gathers data and prepares written reports; independently initiates special projects; interprets policy; provides guidance and assistance to further the achievement of the goals of the work unit or program; formulates projections and recommendations; and makes independent conclusions based on data available.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Compiles and analyzes data for administrative decisions.

  • Reviews, analyzes, and prepares drafts of memoranda and correspondence for administrative decisions and policies.

  • Coordinates collection and presentation of data for use in preparation of budgets.

  • Installs budget control methods concerning all phases of budget in fiscal, personnel and related administrative areas.

  • Interprets established policy and provides information for the resolution of problems.

  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of office procedures and practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of secretarial or clerical work experience.

  • College education from an accredtited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required work experience.

  • Vocational/technical training in the area of secretarial science or office/business studies can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required work experience.

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent can substitute for one year of the required work experience.
