Making Cents International Objective 3 Lead, USAID/Benin NELY Activity in Parakou, Benin

Under the USAID/Benin Northern Economic Livelihoods for Youth, Women, and Vulnerable Populations (NELY) Activity, USAID aims to improve resilience and resistance to violent extremism through increased equitable and diverse economic livelihoods for youth, women, and vulnerable populations living in moderate and high-risk conflict areas of northern Benin. Objective 3 will focus on engaging the public and private sectors to employ strategies in the immediate, medium, and long term to address the unique challenges and opportunities in northern Benin.

This position is contingent upon winning a contract award.

Role and Tasks

The NELY Objective 3 Lead will oversee the design and implementation of all Objective 3 activities, such as public-private partnership development, private-sector engagement, and small and medium enterprise development, towards the goal of achieving a reduction in violent extremism in Northern Benin. The Objective 3 Lead will also support the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party in overseeing and guiding overall project implementation, and in particular all Objective 3 activities. The Objective 3 Lead will supervise Objective 3 project staff and ensure that activities are completed in a timely and high-quality manner.

The Objective 3 Lead will be responsible for the following primary tasks:

  • Guiding the Objective 3 team to design public-private partnership development, private-sector engagement, and small and medium enterprise development activities that reduce violent extremism

  • Overseeing implementation of approved Objective 3 activities and ensuring quality implementation

  • Working with the Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party, and other project team members to ensure activity alignment with USAID priorities, strategic direction, and global best practices

  • Establishing, maintaining, and supporting project staff in understanding and implementing Objective 3 activities, with an eye towards promoting proactive collaboration across technical and operational workstreams

  • Ensuring compliance of all Objective 3 activities with USAID procedures, rules, and regulations

  • Liaising with relevant partners in support of project activities

    Work Schedule

    This position is a full-time position (40 hours per week) based in Parakou, Benin with occasional travel to other sites as needed.

    Required Qualifications

  • Resident of Benin

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of experience, Master’s degree with at least 8 years of experience, or PhD with at least 6 years of experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French; additional language skills in one or more languages commonly used in Benin preferred

  • Prior experience designing and implementing public-private partnership development, private-sector engagement, and small and medium enterprise development programs; experience in Northern Benin preferred

  • At least four years of supervisory experience

  • Experience with adaptive project management, including tracking tasks and deliverables across multiple teams and workstreams

  • Prior experience supporting a USAID-funded project
