Weber Metals Lab Tech I in Paramount, California

Hourly Range: $24.75-$28.50

Summary: Reporting to the Lab supervisor, the Lab Technician I must have demonstrated abilities and reliabilities to perform some relatively simple but importance tasks in the Lab on a daily basis. These Lab functions include fly-cutting, CNC tensile specimens, EC/Hardness inspection, as well as organizing test remnants. With additional training for other key Lab functions, the incumbent is expected to further expand his/her technical skills.

Major Job Duties:

  • Organizing test remnants (operating a forklift to move test material/test remnants to designated areas, book-keeping test remnant locations/dates, etc.)
  • Machining tensile blanks using a fly-cutter for EC and hardness testing.
  • Machining grain flow sections using a fly-cutter.
  • Operate CNC lathe to prepare non-threaded aluminum round bars for tensile testing.
  • Performing hardness and conductivity test on test material/test blanks.
  • Learning from Lab Technician III/Lead on how to lay out test specimens on the test material/prolongation/forging.
  • Learning from Lab Technician III/Lead on how to excise test specimens from test material/prolongation/forging safely and correctly.
  • Learning from Lab Technician II/Lead to pull test bars on tensile test machine, including data-entry to maintain job traceability and record test results.
  • Learning to perform Fracture Toughness Testing including data-entry to maintain job traceability and record test results.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Learning to create shippers to send out test materials for outside testing.
  • Learning to receive outside testing certifications, and transfer test data into Plex
  • Learning to operate alloy check machine and helping receive forging stocks.
  • Learning from Lab Technician II/Lead to prepare chemical etch solutions, to prepare micro and macro specimens, and to photograph micros/macros.
  • Supporting special projects initiated by Lab supervisor/Metallurgists.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must be able to comply with ITAR and EAR residency requirements Working experience in manufacturing/testing/machining/sawing is preferred

Education/Experience: HS/GED or equivalent One year of working experience in a destructive test lab environment as a minimum.
