Mertz is currently seeking Welders to join our team. We are looking for welders with experience in short arc and spray processes with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Studies drawings and prints of work to be performed and determines operations to be performed and materials required.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, or otherwise sets pieces in place preparatory to cutting and welding, and measures dimensions for conformance to specifications.
  • Cleans parts to be welded using wire brushes and grinders.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates welding equipment such as electric arc welders, gas welders, and selects proper electrodes, gas orifices, torch tips, etc., based on type of material being welded.
  • Fabricates and performs welding on trailer and tank/vessel parts and assemblies including components and sub-components of trailer and tank/vessels parts.
  • Inspect welds for cracks, burn through and weld spatter.
  • Must be able to weld all types of metals, set and maintain welding machine (tip, liner changes, etc.) and weld vertical, horizontal and overhead.
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment used in the work area.
  • Operate overhead bridge cranes as necessary to perform work.
  • Must completely follow shop related safety protocol, policies, and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working on the manufacturing floor including, but not limited to, eye, ear, and foot protection.
  • Lift/move up to 50 pounds. Walk up and down flights of stairs.
  • Walk, reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally.

Other Requirements:

  • A pre-employment drug screen and background check is required after receipt of a conditional employment offer.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age to apply.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (required), associates or bachelors degree (preferred)
  • Typically 3-4 years experience or equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Schedule: Night shift

Experience: Mig Welding: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification: Welding Training Certification (Preferred)
