We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer focused on the Teams platform with a focus on API platform to help design our next-generation programmability and API interfaces within Microsoft Teams & M365.

Responsibilities

  • Establish long term technical strategy and direction for key Platform Initiatives. 

  • Create and improve architecture designs for complex end to end scenarios that involve multiple teams and services. 

  • Drive the engineering culture to strive for scalable architecture, operational excellence, growth mindset, and being customer obsessed. 

  • Influence, lead, and collaborate effectively across leadership, teams, and organizations to drive outcomes.

  • Define the next generation of Teams services infrastructure and routing design and drive its implementation.

  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and network issues and proactively implement methods to reduce recurrence and impact of future incidents

  • Develop code, scripts, systems, or platforms that automate complex operations processes (e.g., monitoring, alerting, routing, debugging) at scale.

  • Influence and create new designs, architectures, standards and methods for large-scale distributed system.

  • Be hand-on executing projects of high value and impact to the platform.

  • Deliver features end-to-end from development to deployment

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 6+ years of software platform architecture experience and technical engineering experience with coding in Object Oriented languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience building commercial-grade, high-availability services.

  • 5+ years of experience guiding projects from planning through execution and service operations.

Other or Preferred Qualifications

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a history of navigating significant technical challenges, emphasizing a continuous release mindset and service operation in a dynamic environment.

  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced, customer focused, and data-driven environment.

  • A decisive, self-directed, collaborative, and innovative approach to projects.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge on cloud computing / Azure / AWS / GCP.

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
