State of Utah - Jobs Equipment Painter in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a skilled individual for our Equipment Painter position to paint equipment as needed in UDOT's Equipment Operations Weld Shop.  This will include new equipment as well as recently repaired equipment. Principal Duties As a Equipment Painter,you will: 

  • Paint UDOT equipment using several different types of paint and primer sealers,two part epoxy paints,basecoat,clear coat finishes and other materials.

  • Cleaning and maintaining painting facility,equipment,and tools.

  • Cleaning and preparing equipment for paint.

  • Operates,maintains,calibrates and adjusts specialized equipment.

  • Ensures that there is an adequate supply of materials available. Orders,receives,inspects,and stores equipment,merchandise,commodities,materials,and/or supplies.

  • Assist in the weld shop when not actively painting.

  • Read a tape measure,operate a band saw,and other basic equipment.

  • Works in a team effort to help the maintenance or service operations become successful.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate The best candidate will fill the position at one of the following levels depending on qualifications:

  • [Equipment Painter minimum $28.65 (this includes entry base hourly rate of $23.02 plus professional development pay $5.63 - see info below). ]{.underline}
    • A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 60 days after hire.
    • At least 4 years of directly related professional experience or substitution of directly related education for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
    • 24-hour availability and be available for overtime and varied work schedules.
    • Your own full set of mechanics tools.
  • [Journey Auto Worker (underfill),hourly rate $26.18 [(this includes entry base hourly rate of $20.55 plus professional development pay $5.63 - see info below) ]{.underline}]{.underline}
    • A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 60 days after hire.
    • 24-hour availability and be available for overtime and varied work schedules.
    • Your own full set of mechanics tools.

Additional Professional Development Pay: New hires receive additional compensation for 12 National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications as part of their bi-weekly paychecks. Each ASE is worth approximately $37.53,equaling $450.47 for 12 ASE's. This is equivalent to approximately an additional $5.63 an hour.   Obtaining one ASE certification each month is an expectation of this job. The professional development pay for the certifications is subject to obtaining all 12 ASE's within the 12 month probationary period. If at the end of the probationary period the employee has not obtained all 12 ASE's,the professional development pay will be reduced or discontinued. The dollar amount listed above is subject to change based on other legislative authorized increases. Preference may be given to applicants with experience painting vehicles and he avy equipment. *Supplemental Information *Here is some information you should be aware of:

  • This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing of employees after hire. A conditional offer of employment may be made pending drug test results.
  • May be required to participate in the District Snow Removal Plan which consists of plowing snow on occasion on the state highway system. 
  • *Physical Requirements: *Moderate - Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend,crouch,stoop,stretch,reach,lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
  • *Work ng Conditions: *Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment,e.g.,working around operating machines,working with contagious diseases or chemicals,etc.
  • May be subject to 24 hour availability,overtime and varied work schedules due to inclement weather conditions,job assignment and emergencies.
  • Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Director/Group Leader.
