PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Generalized Mechanic Work Activities:

  • Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing light fleet, heavy fleet, utility fleet, moving parts, and equipment which operate primarily based on mechanical principles.
  • Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, fire apparatus, etc.
  • Inspecting apparatus, equipment or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

Mechanic Specific Tasks:

  • Adhering to safety requirements, procedures, and general best practices within the industry.
  • Adjusting and maintaining apparatus and vehicles using control and regulating devices.
  • Adjusting, maintaining, and repairing or replacing engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions using hand tools, jacks, hoists, and cranes.
  • Cleaning parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and performing other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
  • Diagnosing and repairing or replacing water tanks, fire pumps, systems, and piping.
  • Diagnosing faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Dismantling and reassembling heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Examining parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
  • Fabricating needed parts or items from steel and/or sheet metal.
  • Fitting bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Operating and inspecting apparatus or vehicles to diagnose defects.
  • Testing apparatus or vehicles to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Reading and understanding operating manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Repairing and replacing damaged or worn parts.
  • Repairing emergency lighting or audible notification systems.
  • Scheduling maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records.
  • Testing apparatus or vehicles after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
  • Welding or soldering broken wiring, parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
  • Maintaining necessary records and forms on work performed through Fleet Management Software system (Fleetio).

``` - Ensuring that all UFA parts inventory utilized in vehicle repair is documented in fleet management program - Accurately documenting all time engaged on vehicle repairs in fleet management program - Completing fleet management program work orders in a timely fashion or when requested by supervisor - Assisting Lead Mechanic with completion of MR's for fleet related vendor purchases and repairs when needed - Working with the Fleet Data Administrator to ensure accuracy of records - Ordering and picking up equipment and vehicle parts as needed - Performing other duties of a similar nature or level
