This position paints the interiors and exteriors of buildings and refinishes furniture, equipment and fixtures by using journeyman-level skills. This position is not responsible for providing care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Applies paint to building interiors and exteriors, and other wood, metal, and plaster surfaces, by using brushes, spray guns, rollers, and related painting equipment.

  • Refinishes furniture and office equipment such as cabinets, counters, tables, and desks using stain, filler, sealer, varnish, shellac, and paint.

  • Washes, scrapes, sands, putties, seals, spackles, primes, and undercoats surfaces before painting or refinishing.

  • Blends, mixes, and matches paint and stains by adding pigments and/or thinners to obtain the desired color and consistency.

  • Applies a variety of skills in erecting, rigging, and using scaffolding, ladders, trestles, planks, window jacks, and stages.

  • Performs a variety of tasks by decorating and stenciling interior rooms, installing and replacing window glass and mirrors, removing old finishes from woodwork and floors, hanging wallpaper and vinyl, and other related tasks.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.

  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices and procedures due to the exposure to certain hazardous conditions and situations such as explosive and flammable paints, thinners, and work on tall ladders or high scaffolding.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in painting, or four (4) years of professional painting experience, or the equivalency.

  • Depending upon department of hire, a valid, State of Utah Driver's License may be required.

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves very physical work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects. The position may involve moving heavy equipment and/or supplies. This position may involve exposure to certain hazardous conditions and situations such as explosive and flammable paints, thinners, and work on tall ladders or high scaffolding.
