What’s the Job?

This position is responsible for the management of all Purchasing activities and projects under their scope as well as the oversight for the Shakopee, MN based plant, Portland OR plant (remote) and Denver, CO warehouse (remote).

This position will perform all purchasing activity (including but not limited to: negotiation, management of spend, bid management, and execution of contracts for both goods and services).

This role will focus on cost savings, strategic purchasing improvement, implementation and adherence to global compliance, and utilization of internal digital tools while providing timely service to internal customers

  • Act as both a tactical and strategic Purchaser for the site and business unit.

  • Engage the plant’s technical teams early in the buying process to ensure compliance of purchasing methodology.

  • Ability to manage projects for sites which they oversee.

  • Identify and manage cross-site and cross-business synergy opportunities to leverage negotiations and contracts.

  • Ensure all RFQs are launched through the company’s online bidding platform.

  • Drive compliance for MRO and Agora use at the site level.

  • Utilize the company’s digital tools to ensure everything is bid out according to policy, vendors are validated, and savings/avoidance is properly tracked/reported.

  • Prioritize cost savings initiatives at the site(s).

  • Process purchase orders and notify vendors for requested materials, parts, and services which may include contract preparation, SGCT Drug & Alcohol Policy, and other requirements.

  • Oversee bid walks/meetings with project managers and contractors.

  • Hold regular training sessions and monthly Purchasing meetings with the plant staff regarding Purchasing procedures.

  • Evaluate spend and develop portfolio which to determines which vendors should be contracted along with action plan.

  • Resolve invoice and GRIR issues in a timely manner by working with the vendor, AP, project managers, and requisitioners.

  • Execute and review monthly reporting to ensure proper site operations.

  • Documentation Process Coordinator for files and records (i.e. quotations, purchase orders, reports, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies and audit guidelines.

  • Works with vendors to become pre-qualified through Avetta (CSR Scoring, insurance, etc.)

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience which will provide a working knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices and procedures concerned with purchasing activities.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ of purchasing experience in Procurement, Leadership, or Project Management with a proven track record of success.

  • Candidate needs to be a self-starter, organized, analytic, and able to handle multiple purchasing projects simultaneously with the ability to manage pressure/stress, foster change, and work with a dynamic group of people.

  • Prioritization skills are needed as this position is required to determine the demands to procure materials and services for multiple users.

  • This position requires the candidate to be service orientated and sensitive to customer needs. Must be able to conduct activities in a confidential and secure manner.

  • This position also demands very strong communication skills and have a confident and professional manner to interact with internal and external contacts (customers and vendors) on a daily basis.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to meet position requirements.
