Basic purpose of the job

  • Be the voice of patients in the organization and create value for patients by systematically integrating their needs throughout the patient journey via our work from research to market entry and beyond

  • Aligned with the company's strategic directions and global ambitions, develop the overarching strategy on patient centricity and implement it with a close cross- functional collaboration and change management initiatives across Human Pharma Business Unit(HPBU).

  • As a manager of Patient Engagement,foster patient centricity in Nippon Boehringer Ingelheim and drive patient centricity in collaboration with stakeholders in related areas.

Accountabilities

Develop overarching strategy for Therapeutic area(TA) in charge around Patient centricity aligned with global Patient Engagement and TA strategies, addressing patients/patient organizations' needs from research to market entry and beyond

Related performance indicators

  • Based on in-depth understanding of patients' community, define what patient centricity means in Nippon Boehringer Ingelheim and develop roadmap

Enable systematic incorporation of patient insights and related value drivers across the patient journey(including device/package design,trial design & recruitment, disease awareness/education, trial results communication, evidence creation,regulatory processes/education, regulatory processes/policies, compliance/adherence)

Related performance indicators

-Develop a process to collect and utilize insights from patient community along the all stages of life cycle

-Implement the process across functions/TAs

Enable systematic orchestration of patient engagement initiatives for related TAs including defining metrics and measures of success

  • Define metrics and measures of success with the TA team

  • Work closely across departments in the TA to successfully create value for patients (including IBP/ICP development)

Stay up to date on environment/industry development, anticipate and share trends/changes affecting patient community within the team,and drive further transformation in Nippon Boehringer Ingelheim to be the leading company on patient centricity the industry

  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of current environmental changes which could affect patient community, and ability to foresee the direction of further changes and implications

Represent patient voice to foster the patient centricity in Nippon Boehringer Ingelheim and support related TA members to further drive patient centricity.

  • Establish and maintain a good partnership with patient organizations

  • Obtain in-depth understanding of patients' and patient organizations' needs

-Proactively engage with TA members to identify areas of improvement/enhancement and provide necessary support in making the changes

Create opportunities capacity building initiatives across HPBU functions to ensure that patient needs and expectations are systematically and cohesively integrated and prioritized across all stages of patient journey (from research to market entry and beyond)

  • Participate in developing training/workshop plans on necessary competencies

  • Conduct the workshop programs via collaboration with appropriate teams

Regulatory and / or Organisational Requirements

Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with respective applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Boehringer Ingelheim Code of Conduct, Boehringer Ingelheim processes and regulatory requirements. Ensure that all interactions and engagements are carried out with the highest ethical and professional standards and that all work is accomplished with quality and in accordance with Boehringer Ingelheim values as well as complying with local, and where relevant international law e.g. Data Protection Law of Japan / GDPR EU

Job Complexity

Required to 1) effectively influence and engage with global patient engagement team, Japanese leadership team as well as cross functional teams to drive patient centricity in the organization, 2)take strategic and agile approach in evolving dynamics affecting patient community with the purpose to deliver value to patients

Minimum Education/Degree Requirements

Bachelors Degree in relevant discipline

Required Capabilities (Skills, Experience, Competencies)

● Have >1 years of patient advocacy related experience in healthcare company (including effectively building up a partnership and engaging with patient organizations, working cross functionally with in organization to execute patient centric activities)

● Demonstrate a strong empathy, learning agility and tenacity and commitment to deliver value to patients through empowerment and collaboration with patient community

●Strong strategic thinking skills and ability to translate strategy into execution

● Experience in project lead,able to orchestrate in partnership with stakeholders

● Excellent communication skills including building rapport, presentation and negotiation

● Fluent in Japanese and English(TOEIC >800)

● Understand pharmaceutical industry and related regulations and code of practice
